How much you talking? £1k?

We are a good bit more than that for our trip.

To be fair each course we play is probably around £80-£100 a round including buggy. For instance La Cala Europa... You could walk it but I suspect you'd be 6 hours walking... It's a 20/25 walk to the first tee probably. Huge walk and almost no one walks on the course, it's all buggies.

There are cheaper courses and you can walk but in 25-28 degrees I can't think of anything worse than 5 hours walking round a golf course sweating like mad, carrying a bag etc.

Private minibus from hotel to course and back each day - again you could drive if you have a hire car but with 8 of us that just doesn't work.

We stay in a nice hotel with breakfast included - you could cut this down in apartment or alike

Take our clubs / extra leg room flights etc - That's £350 return there, again could be done cheaper depending on times/dates etc.

We also have a large prize pool/pot for the 5 days - shirts / cap / 9 dozen pro v's as prizes etc.

Also eat out each night at lovely steak place / italian etc and some wine/beers adds to the cost - you could keep this down if you wanted.

Yes - you could do 3 maybe 4 days for £1k, but you'd have to be very good at finding some bargains etc.

I always think of it like the same people that go to Florida and Disney every year and claim they do it for a family of 4 for like £4k.... Looked at it a dozen times and flights are like £3k/tickets like £2k before you even start with food / accommodation / car hire etc etc.

Work hard all year - I'm happy to pay more for a well organised, good 5 day trip with 8 of us.

Had the worse game of about the last ten years today..

Typically after having a lesson, implementing the changes was more than impossible on the course. Shot 101 from a 11 hcp

Got out this morning, first on the course so no one in front of me. 24 over par playing of 23 so happy with that considering my last round I god knows how many over my handicap. I know where and why I lost some shots so some bits to work on

Productive weekend on the course. Birdie number #30 of the year yesterday, a 20ft putt at the 9th, on route to 37 points in the monthly stableford. Would have won my division but for playing the wrong ball on the 17th :o

Today won the 'Triple Challange' with my partner :) Format is six holes Better Ball, six holes Foursomes, six holes Greensomes, stableford scoring. We had reasonable front nine (19pts) but then came alive on the back scoring 26pts. The number of up and downs we made for par was crazy, I kept hitting wedges to inside 10ft and then my partner would clean up with the flat stick. We even had one from 145y on the 12th! Even on the holes where we miscued we made a couple of great two putts. Next best score was 42pts and we were in the second to last group out so had the worst of the conditions.

Anyone got any golf holiday recommendations..

I would like the unicorn, amazing course, sunny and cheap but I appreciate the impossibility. So maybe something so worth the money that I splash out.

Is the Turkey course a treat worth paying for or are there hidden gems that offer the same for less??
Got back from Turkey last week stayed at Cornelia Diamond played Faldo Cornelia twice and night golf carya. Fantastic, I’d say it was as a whole better than La Cala last year due to better accomodation and entertainment on site as they’re massive all inclusive resorts. Carya night golf was incredible too. Will probably go back to Turkey next year I’d probably argue we spent less this year than Spain last year due to going out on the lash every night and eating out.

Got 9 holes in yesterday before the rain hit - 3 over for a little handicap cut! Played a few holes on the back 9 - the course was empty so hit some practice shots, a few out of tough lies, over bunkers etc. Massively prefer that to range practice, definitely feel as though I'm working on something rather than just hitting balls!

Down to 10.4 now :)

How much including flights?

The game of much frustration for me just now! Dark evenings not allowing a full round, wet dismal weather! Not enjoying the game for now, it's a case of grind it out for winter and see what spring brings. My pro did message me today asking if I fancy some pro-ams next year which could be a good laugh.

I want to get out of the range and on a course again soon

Its been a while since i played.

Watching some golf youtube channels is making me want to go - Iv been watching quite a lot of Ian poulter / Rick shields rounds

Went to the range last night to continue working on my driver swing and feel like I am starting to see the change working - I have been struggling with a very left path so my coach gave me a feel to work on of keeping my back to the target as long as possible

Got a lesson on Saturday morning so will see how it is looking then

Played a couple of rounds on the Trackman range at Barnbougle Dunes (shot +1 gross) and Lahinch (shot +6 gross)

We’ve been going to Portugal for years golfing. Used to be 4 days, now it’s 7. You can do cheap over there, places like Pestana Gramacho/Vale Da Pinta where you get unlimited golf included in the hotel/apartment/Villa price and you don’t need car hire. We used to do that and for 4/5 days it would be doable just about for less than £1k inc flights but with food/drinks on top.

This year we stepped it up a notch with a nice Villa, 6 rounds of golf at top venues (Monte Rei, San Lorenzo, Quinta Do Lago etc), mini bus, flights, not much change out of £2k each. Doing the same again next year but in an even better/bigger villa (there’s 7 of us and we get a 10 bed villa as there’s a couple of the fellas who rattle the house down with their snoring!) which obvs has its own pool, but also pool table, darts, table tennis, air hockey. Only 5 rounds of golf this time though (Pinhal, San Lorenzo, QDL all 3 courses), 6 was just a bit too much in 7 days.

Played 10 holes today, was a challenge. Driver was poor on two holes rest alright. Iron of the tee was either drawing a tadge to much or straight out to the right.
Wedge shots which I spent ages practising were mostly garbage. Iron play was back to 50/50 either hit well or hit terrible. I think a lot of it is in the head and once I thin one shot I'm almost certain to screw a few up. I'm going to take my 4/5 iron out of the bag and take my Adams tight lies 3 wood out too. I just don't have the swing speed to get the 4 and 5 iron up, honestly I'd go further playing a pw at this point. Likely doesn't help the club shafts are stiff and my swing speed is in the middle of reg. I'll stick it out though with these irons until April when Ill get my bonus through work and go for custom fit at that point.

It does leave a gap from driver to 7 iron I need to fill as my drive is around 200 carry and my 7 iron is around 140-150
Thinking I might try the 9 wood as they seem to be all the rage or get a second hand 7 wood

Won the first round of the winter singles today.. 4/3.. But frankly I should have won it way before.

Don't mind giving away shots to high handicappers, they are quite capable of making some real hashes of holes. The one i find difficult are playing people with the same handicap as me.

I on the other hand got destroyed 5&3 on Saturday, a scratch match as we both had the same course handicap. Opponent barely put a foot wrong, made some good up and downs when I was on the green in reg, birdied two of the par three's and on the couple of occasions they did make a mistake I failed to take advantage.

Back from Spain golf trip.

Need a rest from the drinking and eating mind you!!

Calanova - straight off the plane to here for a Texas Scramble - Old men v Young Team. Nice course, bit quirky on the side of a few hills. Good fun scramble course - wouldn't like to play it solo trying to shoot a score. Old Men (my team) beat the Young team by 1. Unreal Pro shop - 2 full floors of stuff - every brand you can think of and decent prices - largest pro shop in Europe by all accounts.

La Cala Europa - Love this course - good fun course, soft greens, lovely clubhouse/patio area after for lunch and beers - a bit up in the hills, but very very nice. Played well - 31 points in stableford. Also you play a doubles comp with your room mate against the other 3 rooms over 3 days. Me and room mate batter last years champs 6&4

Rio Real - very hungover for most of us after a big night out before. Lovely course, greens like glass - fastest ever greens I've played on.... Crazy quick.... Again played solid, had 3 birdies including a ridiculous 60ft putt on the 4th and a lovely approach to 3ft on the 18th... another 31 points. Again greens insanely quick - can't even begin to explain. One of the lads had probably the best 3 putt I've ever seen from 50ft down hill..... No often you can say that. Won doubles 5&3

Torrequbrada - Again - love this place - course in excellent condition and a beautiful place to play golf.... Had another 31 points but picked up longest drive, nearest pin in 2 and nearest pin on par 3. One of the nicest places to have a beer and food in the world. Won doubles 5&3 to finish 3-0 and win a lovely golf top each from the pro shop.

Guadalhorce - Final day - close at the top with 4 points covering top 3 (me in 3rd) - Lovely course, just a proper golf course - held European Ladies tour events etc. I felt all week I had been fighting my swing, saving it just with my hands at impact. Swing was all over the place but managing to hole a putt or get up and down etc - The wheels came off big time today on the back 9..... Think I had 9 points on the back 9.... Just couldn't hit a ball - all over the place. Lovely course but not to be - Winner scored 39 points on the day and I dropped to 4th overall out of 8. Sad golfing end to the trip, but still a cracking 5 days golf in 28 degree weather....

Back to reality now - heating on, jackets on etc....

However 6 more birdies on the trip to add to the numbers - That's 70 for the year.

The longer golf trips do seem to become a war of attrition at times. Food, alcohol, so many rounds in a short period of time seem to be taking more of a toll nowadays! :D I won our overall golf trip this year without winning a single event, just came 2nd in all 6! We never had a 39 pointer though, best was 36 in the first day and steadily declining, most days the average was around 30/31 points! :D We try to make it fairer on all by also introducing a 1 shot hcp cut to the winner of each event, which probably contributed to me winning overall i think.

yeah - we used to do cuts etc after each round but now just play off the same each day makes it easier.

Massive shout out mind you to

The app is unreal.... Free.

This kept track of everything - from Stableford daily / doubles comp / longest drives etc etc - the stats it puts out and the leaderboard etc is amazing. high recommended.

Range session last night after my lesson at the weekend

Definitely seeing an improvement in my swing and after my usual miss being right, there were only a couple balls that went right last night with everything else being on target or left of it

I don't mind the left miss on the range as it means the changes are working, I just need to watch my grip doesn't get too strong (historical due to playing a pull fade off the tee most of my life)

Played Casa de Campo 'Teeth of the Dog' and shot +4 but a couple bad shots on the last 3 holes cost me 2 shots missing the green (left) and Trackman auto giving me 3 shots to finish the hole from the rough

Playing both days this weekend so Saturday will be a practice trying to take the changes to the course and Sunday may be the last counting comp for this year unless the weather holds up
