Hey ,

Looking for a new Home alarm system , Our current system has done well for 7 years but is old and out dated. this morning the alarm has gone off 4 times and caused a lot of issues getting someone mainly my aging farther to go round and sort it out.

So i am looking for a Smart alarm system. i am unsure what to go for i have been recommended AJAX alarms but wondering if there are some other good systems out there.

i do have Ring Cameras already round the outside of the house is RING Alarm system worth getting?

i am very lost when it comes to this.

Cheers

I’m currently looking at this too. Following seem to come up regularly:

- Simplisafe
- Ring
- Yale
- ADT
- Verisure
- Abode
- Eufy

I was hoping there would be a nice UniFi option but it’s still in the works and not ideal for home yet. Plus they may drop it like a stone any time like I had with Hive.

Would like opinions on above options.

I’m also interested in how notifications work and whether they need subscription or cloud access. Ideally neither for me.

I also want external alarm as deterrent and at least 6 entry sensors.

I have spent the last few hours just looking at Ring , Had a call from Verisure there coming out to quote me on sat morning , but am assuming its going to be silly money.

The ring stuff seems to be all wireless which is good.

UNIFI would have been good but NVM

Simplisafe is looking cheap during current sale, which could be good enough. They are bundling a camera (apparently they are not great - I have a separate system anyway) but other accessories are well priced as it’s 50% off which brings it in under most of the others. Would like some opinions though. I don’t care too much about subscription options, I just want to be reliably notified of events and have a reasonably good deterrent in place.

did you have it installed or do it yourself ?

I did it myself because I already have trade accounts with most of the CCTV sites that sell the kit. Probably worth getting a quote from a professional installer though as they could probably setup and configure much more efficiently than yourself, depending on the size of the property.

I’d never go near Verisure again, I’ve never felt so forced to buy from them and their sales reps were full of lies. I only wanted a quote! Their install quotation was a joke too. The only thing I liked was the smoke shield.

We have ADT, although we’ve had a lot of negative experiences with them. We mainly have them for police and fire response, not that I’d rely on the former.

I find the Ring cams to be of more use and have them covering the entire perimeter.

Cheers for that i am going to cancel them coming round

Ive had my ring alarm system for a few years now. Doesn't miss a beat. Can arm and disarm via the app and it will also call my mobile if it activates
You can add motion sensors , contact sensors as you wish.
You can also pair up with the ring cameras.
I've had wired systems in the past and they have all false alarmed.
The ring motion sensors seem really stable

Did you have any issues when the app went down the other day with the Aws outage ?

I can see one pack on Amazon but I’m not sure if they actually support self-install officially. Kit looks good though. Probably a more expensive option, hard to say without getting a company to quote.
