*** ROG XBOX Ally X Discussion Thread ***

I think a lot more are starting to get on board to be fair.

I'm certainly happy with whats coming down the pipeline with Final Fantasy 7 remake coming next (3rd party wise) for me.
Unfortunately it's only a handful. The majority aren't "play anywhere". Marketing have made it sound as if it's a "growing" feature to help promote sales of the Xbox ROG Ally. So, Hogwart's Legacy is now "play anywhere", but that's not a hard sell for Warner Bros since the game has already sold tens of millions of copies across multiple platforms and can be bought for a few bucks on sale. Square Enix are throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks because they are in financial difficulties following repeated poor sales with titles like Final Fantasy etc. I wouldn't expect many studios / games to follow with "play anywhere" ... from a business perspective they want the extra revenue from consumers having to pay for multiple licenses.

Ok.

I still don't get how this is on the console forum section and people are talking about upgrading windows 11 etc and Steam Deck which a much more 'console like' experience is in the PC Games section? how does that make sense? As expected a lot people on social media platforms thinking that it was actually a portable xBox!

It's a handheld Windows laptop with a XBOX logo on it. That's all it is.

Just hilarious people are putting bazzite on this thing, literally defeats the only thing that makes this an "xbox" (i dont believe for one second that it is btw).. rog ally 2 more like.

Best of both worlds with more powerful hardware than the original Steam Deck with dual boot.

Is there a list of compatible xbox games ?
I am confused what you can play on the Ally
You can play PC games on it, within reason according to the specification of the system. It's a handheld PC - you could almost think of it as a small gaming laptop without the keyboard part :p

Microsoft has expanded the XBox brand now really and also uses it to describe its platform for PC gaming.

Oh so it can't play xbox games ?
Sorry for the dumb questions, I am not an xbox guy I was gonna buy this as a gift for someone.
No, you can't buy a game for an XBox console and play it on this (with exception for the 'play anywhere' stuff that effectively gives you multiple platforms regardless of which one you buy) - you couldn't, for example, buy FC26 for XBox and play it on this, you'd need the PC version.

I see, thanks guys that really helped me.
Looking at the "Play anywhere" list I am not sure that the ally would be any good for the person I was gifting it to.
Pretty bad marketing by Microsoft if you ask me.

Yup and it’s what many parents or people in general may fall into trap of tbh

However they are great devices I’ll say that! I love my original Ally. I picked it up earlier in year when it was on offer at Amazon for £400

Its the Z1 Extreme version and I’ve had no issues with what I’ve played on it

I agree.

As an example GTAV and Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, two games I own digitally on xbox, are not included in "Play anywhere". I would need a Game Pass subscription to play both on PC, something I cancelled after the recent price hikes as I just don't play enough games to merit the cost.

Been away for half term and been playing with my Ally X a lot at night.

Hogwarts Legacy, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor and Outer Worlds 2 all running great (although I'm not a frames addict). Really comfortable too, much comfier than my Steam Deck.
