Hi guys,

Did check the only thread I could see was 4 years old.

Our tumble dryer is about 25 years old and will be horrendously inefficient.

Thr only thing is the current one is in our garage, which isn't heated, so hopefully that isn't an issue although I understand it won't be quite as efficient.

Anything else worth thinking about? Any recommendations?

I was looking at the figures and hard to believe how little electricity they use, particularly compared to the one we have.

Haier are very good. We have one of their direct drive 10kg washing machines and it's quiet, extremely efficient (0.256 kWh for a 2.5 hour Eco program) and very well built, much better quality than the likes of Hoover and Candy. It also has a three year labour warranty and five years parts warranty.

If be tempted the only slightly concerning thing they got recalled because they can set on fire:

It's the same one as well but I would assume new ones would no longer have the issue?

I double checked and it is a 20% discount I get at B&Q, I don't work there but got my own card through a family member.

The other one they sell is this:

Which after discount would be £800 and does look good, one review as well specifically says they have it in their garage and it works fine, plus I like Bosch stuff.

It's £800 though......

But then if it lasts twice as long....

I’ve got one of these affected unit :p

Mines getting ‘fixed’ next Tuesday. From what I can gather is an electrical cable may have been installed in the incorrect place and it can run against a pipe which is vibrating, it eventually runs through and short circuits.

Ooooops.

Also another oops I just realised all of those units except the Bosch are built in units. Need a freestanding one.

Bugger, so it's either £800 Bosch or forgo the staff discount and look elsewhere.

gadget show did a video on heat pump dryers and the Hotpoint activecare 82XB came out on top against much more expensive rivals. I think the video is on YouTube.

Just to add I have the Hotpoint activecare 82XB and it is really good.

Cheers yes I'm looking at it now the figures stack up, energy use and drying time look good, and it's also a fair bit cheaper can get it for £364.

I'm well dubious about Hotpoint though, but at the price might be worth a punt.

It's unheated but attached to the house, single skin brick wall, I don't think it ever quite gets the freezing in there but probably not far off on really cold days.

I did read through that other thread cheers.
Last time I looked, they lose a lot of efficiency below 15c and don’t really work below 10c.
I noticed the same when looking at compressor dehumidifiers recently as they’re doing basically the same thing

not a heat pump drier but a washing machine. We had a haier machine and it was absolute junk worse than the servis machine it replaced broke down after 8 months and the repair man was more interested in selling calgon than fixing the machine it then broke again after 22 months when in the service agent argued it was out of warranty until i pointed to the 2 year manufacturers warranty we had, this then took 6 weeks to fix and finally died of the same control board failure 3 months out of warranty. awful machine awful customer service.Bought a Bosch and a Bosch heat pump drier and they have both been very good much better on electricity even than the condensing unit we had before.

Have a Bosch heat pump dryer its complete garbage. It could be the moisture sensor but from day one its never dried the load when the sensor thinks.

Can't speak for other brands

I went for the Hotpoint @Bounce recommend, should turn up on Tuesday.

I looked and it did seem to get a ton of good reviews as well.

I git it for £364 which was a lot less than the Bosch one. You take a punt I guess either way, fingers crossed.

That’s a good price I paid £483 , 18 months ago

I've got a smeg 8kg one. Paid £264 for it. Does the job.
One thing to note is that heat pump dryers take longer to complete the cycle than a normal condenser dryer.

edit: actually £267 (sorry my memory isn't as good as it was back in the day  )

Yup that's fine.

Basically we stopped using the one in the garage as it pulls 3kw, and she'd still have it on for well over an hour.

So she setup a portable AC unit but on dehumidifier mode, but even that was pulling 1kw and if anything probably ended up using more energy as it would be on for ages.

Plus it was ridiculous walking into the dining room with laundry bloody everywhere.

We already have solar and both work from home so no trouble at all having it going for several hours during the day.

One thing to bear in mind is that stuff typically won't end up as warm at the end of the cycle in a heat pump dryer compared to a regular condenser, this is often mistaken for not being dry because people expect them to be warm

my other point was, £800!?
is it some super duper wifi fancy gimmicky dryer and does it come with a robot to fold the laundry too?
