What book are you reading...

Neither Here Nor There by Bill Bryson, and I'm really enjoying it. Which is strange, because the only other Bryson book I've tried was his well regarded Notes From A Small Island and I couldn't get in to it at all!

Finished TWoT book 9 a couple of days ago and now going with Book 10.... Matt really is the best in this so far :D

Halfway through book 11 now and I just have to say it again - Matt is a brilliant character in this :D :D

Just go to the bit he has rejoined the Band of the Red Hand, looking at maps and Tuon suddenly realising he is not the buffoon she thinks

Gotta love Matt. TBH, if the TV series carried on, I could see the replacement actor they used for Matt being very VERY good at it (if it followed the books of course) :)

As i have said before, Matt is easily the best character in WOT. During the slower chapters, it kept me going hoping the next chapter was about Matt.

I just finished Warriors Of The Storm by Bernard Cornwell.

A good read, but very similar to all his others.
Iirc i got to about book 5 or 6 in this series, i thought the same, most of the books are of a similar plot line, but with different names, but a good read all the same.

I just finished the Nights Dawn trilogy by Peter Hamilton and I have to say I'm disappointed. I really liked the Comonwealth Saga so was hoping for more of the same epic space opera.

It started out strong with the first book, interesting story and well fleshed out characters and brilliant pacing. I was genuinely intersted where this was going at the end of the first book. Sadly it quickly lost its way and the second two books felt like he had no idea where this was going. Rambling world building so many pointless characters and story arcs which went nowhere.
Al Capone... what on earth?!
I plodded on hoping it'd all come together in the end with a massive twist but sadly not. The whole thing felt rushed. The best part of 3000 pages building to a massive anti climax which was rushed through in less than 150 pages.

Now I'm on the search for some more fulfiling Space Opera or perhaps will keep ploughing through the SF masterworks.

I'm about a third of the way into Project Hail Mary, by Andy Weir, and really enjoying it. This is aided by Ray Porter narrating the audiobook.

I'm also about halfway into The Proving Ground, the new Michael Connelly and really enjoying this too.

Finished up Changes, by Jim Butcher. Another good Dresden Files book. Having a break for the series now to avoid burnout.

Read Breach of Peace by Daniel Greene (Youtuber). It was alright. Better than I expected and made me interested enough to purchase the sequel.

Now for the big boy. I'm doing it. I've started to read Shogun by James Clavell.

Finished the book about the archaeology of musical instruments, which was pretty interesting, and then blasted through a John Wyndham book I haven't read before: The Chrysalids. Great book! :D Could almost make a pretty good film adaptation. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys well-written British sci-fi.

Now reading a biography of Kenny Everett :D

"Anno Dracula" by Kim Newman. What happened if Van Helsing failed to kill Dracula, who then went on to woo, marry and turn Queen Victoria? This is the book that explores that idea.
Brilliantly written, a huge cast of characters from so many era pieces. Stoker & his characters, Holmes, Quartermain, Jack the Ripper, real-world politicians and notable figures, etc.
I'm about 100 pages from the end and already have "The Bloody Red Baron" on the way (Richtoffen as a shape changing vampire that doesn't need a plane).
I thought it was 'fine' but they get progressively worse as they go.
After reading all 6 i can't say i rate him as a writter.

Good to know, thanks.
As much as I liked AD, I did get the feeling in some parts that he's writing it just to show how fearfully clever and well-educated he is.

It had the most Deus Ex Machina ending to top all other Deus Ex Machina endings for sure. And I learned to dread any chapter which focused on the drawn out land battle on Ombrey. I actually read that before The Commonwealth Saga and on the whole I agree Commonwealth was the more together story. Must be 20 years ago I read NDT.

I actually didn't mind the Ombrey story arc, the characters were at least relatable.

The the whole ending was a cop out though.
Space Rasputin becomes Space Jesus, saves the day, and lives happily ever after with underage princess leia who he got pregnant 2 books previously...

Needed a big book to take on holiday. So The Reality Disfunction by Peter F Hamilton. 1200+ pages I think. What a great read, only third of the way through but it's a great re-read.

Just been on holiday and read

Stalingrad by Anthony Beevor - a bit heavy going, but it was an area of WW2 I wasn't that familiar with. I like the style of this author's military history books.
Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky - a first contact SF novel. I felt it was a bit similar to some of his earlier books, but quite good
Hail Mary Project by Andy Weir - about 2/3 of the way through and very enjoyable - I liked the Martian as well. The best of the 3 books so far

So many books to read... nowhere near enough time.

Has anyone ever read Gene Wolfe's Book of The New Sun?

I bought this last week.

Still trying to finish off Brandon Sanderson Mistborn 3.
