Hi folks, not a trick question/answer set up

Not having done this before as our day to day cars are a Mazda and a Hyundai but if I were in a position where I could buy a 'nice' car this one exact model, how would I approach that? Not concerned about the $$$ so much as the who to speak to - is it via Porsche dealers, private sales, something else?

Bear in mind we're in NZ so personal recommendations probably won't work so well if UK-based and no, I'm not mal_x (seems to be banned now, lol) but essentially: would like to buy a, for us, nice car for the first time - what do we do and what do we avoid?

Thanks folks x

When you say Mazda, do you mean a rear wheel drive model? What Porsche are you looking at? A mommy wagon or performance car?

I honestly can't tell when you're taking the pee at times tbh, especially with that link.

That link doesn't go to a Porsche? What is it, 911, Cayman?

Sorry, my bad copy/paste skills. Should be correct now.

e: for sake of completeness: GT3 RS

What is the fastest car you've ever driven?

Was it rear wheel drive or not?

You're going to get yourself killed jumping into bed with a high performance rear wheel if you've no experience of rear wheel vehicles. Aim for something like an Audi R8 if you've never driven anything fast before, you're a bit of a love hate member for me but the last thing I want is for you to wrap yourself around a lamp post. You'll spend considerably less to boot, there's plenty of power there for some fun and they handle extremely well.

Thank you, and fair points. I've never driven anything particularly flash, hence the questions.

Circumstances are good and looking for advice.

This isn't terrible I don't think? You could probably knock 5-10k off with an offer, that's a lot of fun and speed for the price. Not sure if a convertible would be my route but isn't the weather in NZ usually really good?

If you've never driven anything quick before and want some fun go for a four wheel drive, the R8 is basically a Lambo in another skin last I checked.

Is this a serious thread? :D

A GT3RS is a full blown track tool, and terrible to drive on normal roads, if you absolutely want a GT3, avoid the RS and look at the standard GT3 or the GT3 touring.

Even then, I think the standard 992 would be much better, unless you absolutely just want a GT3

Yeah, it is, unusually. I might have the wrong car choice (likely) and am looking for something a tier or two down perhaps. As I said, circumstance is giving options and I know what I think I want but that's maybe not the right outcome.

e: typo.
