Pictures of snow falling in town on the local newspaper website and on higher ground none appears to have settled though. Strong gusty winds together with the low temperatures makes it feel perishing cold

Unless its extremely localised or you used York as a general area I think you may have exaggerated that slightly
I didn't share this pic at the time for obvious reasons. That snow on the bike cover is after the wind blew a lot of it onto the tarmac where it melted. No snow in Somerset yet! Ruddy chilly mind you with that wind.
We had sporadic showers of it this morning near Wincanton and the odd sad looking individual flakes throughout the afternoon, nothing settling though - not even close.

It rained then snowed for about 20 mins but nothing came of it. In Brighton.
