Cyclist crashed in to car - what now?

I've got a report number as I thought my insurance might be interested, sadly not.
Then plod should be able to provide you with details of who he is from mobile number. Its a RTA, you suffered damage to your vehicle which your insurance won't cover & the other party doesn't have insurance, you're entitled to know who to bill.

Send him the bill with a registered letter saying you'll begin legal action in 28 days. You never know, they may cough up something. Obviously don't go to small claims track as you'll be lucky if it gets heard this decade in some places.

Surely the police will only provide details if there is legal action in progress?

Not even remotely worth their time attempting to get anything from this guy. You already know it's not worth yours either. Back-seat lawyering each other via SMS isn't going to help (unless you enjoy it). For sure the guy is an entitled ass and probably never intended to pay you anything, or maybe he did? It's no defence, but he probably isn't well off and didn't damage your car deliberately, sucks to be either of you.

I do have 3rd party cover for cycling, it costs £50 a year, used to be £20. :-/

There's no need to be a **** about it though, poor or not.

He could end up with a CCJ.

Is he serious? How is him riding into you not his fault?

Because he doesn't realise maintaining his bike is his responsibility. He's wrong but it's an understandable error. I'd wager he's actually a decent enough person most of the time. For sure he doesn't know how to communicate about this over SMS. OP responded the same way and now it's a stand-off. Try responding kindly and just honestly tell him what it's costing you, whether you go insurance or not, no fake lawyering. Unless you enjoy this, then go for it.

Nobody is getting a CCJ.

This could be the first court case where the prosecutor and the defendant are both represented by AI. I'd watch that.
Glad it's not just me that noticed :) Maybe this is the future...instead of swapping insurance details after an accident you just exchange AI agent details and the LLMs go and argue with each other for a bit then it gets settled automatically :P

Unfortunately, rightly or wrongly this will just reinforce a lot of peoples opinions about cyclists.

small claims immediately even if it costs more! make him pay! Id also send a message back that says "see you in court" :)

You have his messages, you have everything you need to make the man pay!

Hmmmm, not really sure where to go now. The guy is obviously gonna ghost me, my insurance aren't interested unless I claim on my own insurance which means I pay the excess, and lose my NCB.

All I've got is the guy's name and number. I've found his Instagram account too, but that's it.

Not sure how I could find out more info from his number, would a solicitor be able to help?

Unless the guy is hot on internet privacy, there should be quite a lot you can find from those details :)

Anyone on a cycling facebook group?
That last message from him, reads like a "internet lawyer" comment. Not even ChatGPT is that ridiculous.

Logged with this, with all supporting evidence.

Problem is all I have is his name & phone number. Not sure how I could get more details from that.

As above.
