I’m still bemused as to how this has happened - if memory serves they haven’t had any issues with skid wear this was Ferrari correct?

Still Landos title but to quote the great Murray anything can happen and it usually does.

McLaren have said their cars suffered from unexpected porpoising that wore the floor. Confirmed by the FIA that it was just bad luck rather than a purposeful technical infringement.

Fundamental question is, why in 2025, and in the premier racing sport, they need to use wood planks.

I don't trust FIA/Stewards at all and I can see this whole thing as a big stunt to keep the championship fighting going.

Way too many iffy decisions this season.

Max has had a lot of favoritism as well from them.

I had what Americans have done to F1 it feels so tacky now

They aren't going to lie about it because it can be validated, and McLaren would no doubt check it themselves. Since there was no counter, they clearly accept it.

Both cars were sparking all race, they had to LiCo and McLaren admitted the setup lacked testing. A lot of copium going around.

Charles is fifth and Lewis is sixth. Given Charles has spent multiple years in this Ferrari it’s a stretch of the highest degree to say he’s “destroying” Lewis.
Yea, by almost 80 points.

Rating drivers based on number of WDC has always been a weak metric, although those who win it typically don't make majors errors almost every race so this year could be a first.

I still think 2021 took that magic away from Lewis he’s never been the same since.

I’m hardly a fan but to see him in the doldrums in the Ferrari is tough to watch.

I wonder why anyone bothers watching the race when this sort of thing happens, makes the whole thing a bit moot.

Yep. Team Max can call it “the rules” when they know full well he’s not held to the same driving standards day in day out.

Yeah. So one has to ask in this case — why on earth such a harsh penalty given it had no meaningful impact on the speed of the car? Yes “rules are rules” but arguably Max’s engine replacement (also against the rules) has made his car faster than the McLarens for two races now and he got nothing more than a slap on the wrists.
Like I said before, this ground effect era is nonsense.

Was Oscar lifting and coasting? Anyway I thought the LIcO was for fuel, not wear.

So? He’s still 6th out of 20 runners. And in arguably a terrible car too. It’s not like Charles has been getting poles and podiums every weekend.

Dire race. Avoided all news, so only found out about the double DSQ after. Certainly makes it an interesting last couple of races - what a fumble from McLaren.

People talking about Max's engine replacement, was he not penalised then? I think I've missed this somewhere. When was it replaced and what penalty was or should have been given ?

The plank wear thing.... Can they not just let them all run it as low as they want and if the car breaks or catches fire or the driver gets arse rash, we just go "meh" and carry on? ;)

Lewis done the same for Brazil '21 and trounced the field from the back. The engine will make a minute difference in the grand scheme of things and more down to the fact that Red Bull are still developing for this car whilst the rest of the field probably including McLaren have started to fully focus on '26.

I also think Red Bull been able to understand the car a whole lot more and the floor upgrade has worked wonders but the 'window' in which it operates is much more difficult.

Red Bull had literally nothing to lose and they've played the rules to their advantage - welcome to the world of Formula 1. Part of the draw for me personally with the sport are to do with things like this and bending the rules to the absolute maximum.

All the click bait ‘Max has the title in reach’ headlines. Norris only has to score 2 points more than him next weekend.
There's two races and a sprint race left, possible 58 points.

Norris is only 24 points ahead of Oscar and Max.

Norris needs 35 points to clinch title regardless of what those two do, which he would get with 3rd in both full GPs and 4th in the sprint race, if I've worked it out correctly.

Massive blow to Norris, as the last two races would have been a breeze and he'd have pretty much won the title.

It is still firmly in his grasp, but i just hope he doesn’t get any more bad luck.
