It's pretty rare for lower power cards to have issues to be fair, it does happen just not as frequently.

Turns out drawing 600w + through a single poorly tested connector isn't the best of ideas, who knew?

This is why I got the Pure. 2 x 8 pin connectors, runs cooler, and very similar performance. The performance increase of the Nitro over the Pure isnt worth the tiny % of risk or hassle

I've even seen people say just buy a psu with the connector in it as standard and there's no issues with melting, which is bs as I've seen it on the nvidia side. Not even sure why people think using a connector direct from the psu instead of a supplied adaptor would even make a difference they're pulling the same power regardless which you use.

The cards i was looking at were the xfx mercury oc, the mercury magnetic oc and the nitro. And typically enough the black mercury cards go out of stock a few days back, i could get a white one no problem but it would look weird in my case. One place has a black mercury in stock at near £700 so bugger that. Just decided to take a punt on this.

It's not true, it is the "better way to do it" but the point of failure is the actual 12VHPWR connector. There might be an argument for voltage regulation but I'd be hard pressed to believe it.

The best way to diminish concerns with the connector is to undervolt, a 5090 can draw 600w + which is where most failures happen but will happily run with little to no performance loss when limited to 450W. It honestly makes you wonder where the QC is with Nvidia, feels more like they're focused on rushing AI and power delivery to support it out of the door asap tbh, and as consumers we became the testing ground. Nvidia's initial response and then doubling down is shocking, it amounted to "are you plugging it in properly?" while for some ungodly reason the connector was added to the 3.0/3.1 ATX standard post release due to Nv pushing it, it wasn't initially part of it.

As mentioned earlier, it's rare it happens on lower power cards but it isn't impossible. The 9070XT doesn't use much power, but you'll probably get better frames and temps by undervolting a little anyway.

Just tried to order but i seem to be stuck on the checkout page. The 'Pay Now' button just has a loading icon. Been 5 minutes...

Yeah, the white card will look a bit goofy in my case but Ill take the performance and cooling over a bit of a goofy look :D

Pleasantly surprised with a despatch email already.

We installed a new WMS (warehouse management software) in preparation to peak, today we have shipped nearly 3000 orders so far, it has essentially doubled our warehouse efficiently if not more so. :)

@Gibbo any idea when the Gigabyte 5070 Ti is coming in stock?

Those are due this week, best to pre-order as its a pre-order special, once those land the price will increase slightly.

Is there any one type of card that's selling particularly well or is demand equally high across all SKU's?

I ordered this but me being a donut sent this to my old address! After staking outside my old house in my car for half an hour I managed to incept the DPD driver just before he knocked on the door.

Not had a chance to put this through it's paces yet but I've had a look over it and I'm pretty impressed,, the photo above makes it look a bit cheap and budgety looking but irl it's anything but.
- 2.5 slot cooler
- Back plate
- Single 8 pin power connector
- Dual BIOS
- Solid construction, card being 2.5 slots has some hefty to it whilst being compact
