UEFA Champions & Europa League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th November 2025]

90's Liverpool is back lads.

Nah, they'll be fine with a better manager. I don't think they will be anywhere near the level they have been at times under Klopp but they will be fine. They are just going to really struggle to replace the likes of Salah, Alisson and VVD.

Was in the Clock End last night. Best atmosphere I've seen at a mid week game in quite a while, got a proper sore throat from all the singing, loved the Harry Kane chants. That was a massive win against the form team in Europe and just shows what a squad we have now. Don't think any side will want to play us. It's critical we follow it up with a win on Sunday though.
Said it before but I really liked the business you completed in the summer apart from the Striker but he do a job.

So reports coming out today are that the board are backing Slot. Lets just hope that if things dont improve they dont leave it too late into the season to decide to not back him.

Surely they have to back him in the short term, unless the run continues and/or he loses the dressing room.

It likely has a lot to do with who's realistically available. Apart from a Klopp return, which I think is unlikely, they aren't going to replace Slot with Ange or Ten Hairs, for example.

They obviously have the money, but poaching a manager like Iraola away from Bournemouth would be expensive. While he's done well there, he may crumble under the pressure of managing a much bigger club. Although he might actually make Kerkez look like a footballer again, rather than someone running around like a headless chicken

I figured they would back him, but I thought it might be a backing with a caveat, like that he has to get 6 pts from West Ham and Sunderland, or has to have us back in the top 4 by the end of December or something like that, rather than just a blanket we're completely behind him.

Then again maybe those caveats have been given, but in private.

With top quality/attacking players he might actually do OK?

Bar last season what are his credentials compared to Slots?
I mean, technically Ange has won a European trophy, which Slot hasnt, but the flip of that is that Slot has won the Premier League, which Ange hasnt :)

There is very little bones left from the Liverpool team that was scary to play against though.

Bobby, Mane, Milner, Trent, Fabhino, Henderson are all gone. VVD, Salah and Alisson are all well into their 30's. VVD is clearly past it and Salah isn't getting any younger.

I have said a million times but Klopp never left a squad as strong as a lot of people think.

With the exception of Isak all purchases are complete unknowns in the prem and not many players are still there from Liverpool's peak Klopp years.

Arsenal, City and Chelsea all have a better squad of players. Yes I know Liverpool won the title last season but just like a purple patch with RVP in 2012/13 for us a purple patch for Salah last season papered over a lot.

Liverpool need to be really careful what they do as any United fan will say how quickly it can go down the pan.

Iraola wouid 'only' cost a reported 9 to10mill I believe, he's also out of contract end of the season, given we've got a good relationship with Bournmouth that figure might be cheaper.

Not convinced a club like Liverpool would give a toss about the Europa tbh.
Maybe not but it was merely an answer to the posed question, its simply a statistical fact that Ange has won a European trophy and Slot hasnt , and likewise that Slot has won a premier league and Ange hasnt. Other than those two items they are actually pretty similar in terms of what they've won.
