Linux GPU Gaming Benchmarks on Bazzite

The fact that this thread is even taking place is testament to how far gaming on Linux has improved over the last 3-4 years (primary due to Valve's work with Proton). It may not be all things to all men yet and may never be, but at least it is a viable alternative for at least some.

For me at least it doesn't have to be a binary choice between Windows and Linux/OtherOS, I still have Windows installed and dual boot when I need. Personally, I don't "hate" Windows or MS, however, many things that have been enforced do irritate me and get in the way of doing what I need to do and that irks and tests my patience. Linux provides a path of least resistance for many of non-work daily tasks (afterall isn't an OS these days 90% of the time just a bootloader to your internet browser, do some streaming and the odd doc/spreadsheet, maybe edit/print a photo?) the fact I can now game on it easily is awesome, and for me at least get the same if not better performance in the games that I play to that of Windows is just brilliant.

Edit - typos and emphasis

I've recently installed Bazzite on my living room PC, the version that just loads straight into Steam Big Picture mode.

Zero problems and zero messing about with Linux required (so far). It just works.

Its a system with an AMD 9060xt 16gb which seems to be better supported than nvidia though I've never personally tested that.

Do you use optiscaler to get FSR4 working on it and how is that process?

I mean that's clutching at straws but I don't deny it has improved. I use a Mac at home and a Mac and Kali for work so I appreciate these things for their specific uses, but there is zero chance I'm using either for gaming in my lifetime.

edit: I mean the thread taking place, it (linux) has clearly come on miles for gaming :)

Haven't tried anything like that yet sorry, I might do when I try more modern games.

Currently have been playing older games in my backlog which have worked flawlessly so far, Portal 1&2, X-Com and going to have a go with WH40k Chaos Gate Daemonhunters this weekend.

I understand the point of view of the chaps who don't want the hassle, however there is no doubt gaming on Linux has progressed in leaps and bounds over the last few years. For some it's now worth it to escape the clutches of MS and I wouldn't want people to be put off giving it a shot.

I will give it another try at some point, probably what will help is to look in advance how to do the things I want to from the start, so using a program like fan control (might have linux actually, not checked), how to set the global flags for my GPU (VSYNC on, etc), how to enable HDR on a whim.
The kernel thing isn't really an issue for me personally as that tends to be tied to slop mp games which I don't play.

It's only a matter of time before MS close off Kernel access (Ring 0), whether that will be next year's feature release or in a new Windows version is unclear, but it will happen.

I find the best method of anti cheat is simply not bothering to play multiplayer games because they are always infested with them.
