Stranger Things (Netflix)

Enjoyed it but definitely has issues, mostly stemming from the earlier seasons.

Jonathan is still a complete nothing character and in an effort to seemingly give his character something to do they've completely ruined Steve who was one of the best characters in the series. The love triangle feels so forced and pointless.

Vecna still feels like a complete ass pull and nothing will convince me he was the big bad all along before season 4. Not sure how I feel about the whole trapped in his dream thing either.

The acting has never been the series strongest point but it seems worse than ever now they're fully grown. There's a lot more charm to dodgy acting when they're actually children.

Thought we'd just watch 1 or 2 on Sunday evening but my son just wanted to binge watch all 4, so ended up doing that.

Overall, 8/10.. it would be higher, but
- Ep 4 ending is very much a cliche of The Matrix with Neo waking up.. Had this series been in a vacuum, then absolutely fine.. but it isn't in a vacuum, maybe more recent shows like The Invasion also having very similar moments doesn't help if you are an avid sci-fi watcher.
- Dustin's side plot felt out of place, I'm not sure what the ultimate point of that is and felt so forced that it came across as the writers not knowing what to do with his character, like it's run its course.

I'm trying to get into this new season, but I'm finding it a bit off. I think Welcome to Derry has raised the bar!

The kids now all grown up are still trying to be like the kids they were in the previous seasons, while pouting some rather odd forced facial expressions at times.
Wasn't too impressed with season 5 so far. Holly seems like a forced character. 11 taking out soldiers but leaves those who are literally foiling his plans. That guy who rushed, his role was quite annoying. The radio girl always rambling.

Is Derry that good?

I read up about the actress a bit more. If you search for photos of her you can see why they'd select her when she was about 4 years younger. And that is partly the issue. She's playing a 7 year old, but aged too much by the time they filmed. When she was probably auditioning at say 9 she suited the role fine, but then she was 12 by the time they started filming, 14 now, and she out aged the character she's playing, having an even deeper voice than mike at times.

I'm struggling to suspend belief. I'm finding myself picking up on things that I know I'm probably be meant to ignore but it's just too far fetched.

It's entertaining but I've kinda lost what the point of it all is lol.

Finally, something that looks like it will be great from start to finish. And properly concluded.

Only 2 episodes in. But s5 is the best series in a while too.

Can wet not have more of this stuff please?

Spoiler tagging, can you give examples?
Soldiers standing still emptying magazines on a bullet proof enemy that doesn't flinch.

Getting choked out and tortured by Kay, then just giving her a back hander after killing any other random grunts along the way.

Not thinking, hmm.. Maybe we should shoot these little radar things in the corners of the room to stop Eleven getting her brain fried.

Dustin getting beaten to crap only to walk back later.

The rich family unconscious in the barn. For how long exactly?

Entire army wiped out but wills mother just tossed aside so she can be OK next episode.

I appreciate it's meant to be mindless entertainment but I found myself just thinking I was watching a crap avengers movie by the end.

And I found it odd that after everything they've been through they seem to just argue with each other most of the time. Steve just shouting at anyone about being bad at tracking monsters through the headphones. An odd way to behave.

i get you.

i guess i would try and counter this with just saying, for me at least, it feels like it mostly matches what the rest of the seasons have been like. the bickering, our characters knowing exactly the right thing at the right moment, especially the kids with their dnd knowledge matching exactly what's happening (so much so at a point i was convinced this season would have a reason, for instance, mike is making some of these things happen as he plays them in dnd and then dreams them into life), hop about to die in that russian prison but our heros turn up at the exact right second, when he's been gone what a year?

so although you can rightly nitpick at things, i guess the issue perhaps is that not that there are mindless moments, but they feel far more in your face than before?

Yeah that could be the case. It's not a bad show by any means. I'm just likely being critical. The cast has obviously aged a bit too which is initially jarring and it's also less easy to overlook some pretty average acting.

Yeah really annoying with......

Hopper having time to set up the ambush but not easily shooting the microwave guns in the corner.
