Golf Thread

Out this morning for 18 - nice morning for a change - course is muddy, hollow tinned greens etc but good to get a hit.

Just working on my "new" pre shot routine - trying to get that feeling normal etc.

+3 thru first 3 holes...

Then 3 birdies, 2 bogies in the next 15 for a +2 round. 35 points (only get 1 shot on the shortened course   )

Round in under 3 hours as a 2 ball - perfect winter golf.

Birdies 73/74 & 75 today for the year.... Originally set 50, but then stretch target of 75 so very pleased with that.

No golf for me today as we had my mother staying over after we took her out for her birthday and then we were out with a group of friends this afternoon

Will have another range session one night this week and then got a lesson on Saturday afternoon but I will hopefully get 18 in before that to see how my game is fairing

Last 4 rounds have been 77, 79, 73, 75 so not too bad and if I can improve a little over winter that will only help the scores when the greens get better again

That's exactly my plan shot 78,78,80,79. Played the Colt at Close House on Wednesday, unbelievable course.

Really hoping to cut osme shots from 60 yards in. Got a couple of lessons lined up before the next season starts.

Driving range two days in a row and then on the course today.
Driving range yesterday was busy so played Bethpage on the top tracer thing, was quite good.
On the course today shot 93 so around my handicap, happy with it though as the first two holes were awful hitting 2 triple bogeys in a row so managed to forget about them and continue.

Has anyone used club house golf for fitting? https://www.clubhousegolf.co.uk/acatalog/Performance-Custom-Fitting-Centre-Warrington.html this looks pretty good, £90 for full bag fitting and seems in depth compared to the hit a few and see what i fancy. will be aiming for irons and putter but for the cost may as well find out whats best for the other bits.

Quite like the idea of trying these: https://www.clubhousegolf.co.uk/acatalog/Titleist-T250-Launch-Spec-Golf-Irons-Steel-Shafts.html good for getting the ball in the air with the really high lofts.

A very big character in golf for sure - Sometimes very controversial (see comments about Tiger )
I don't know who the big characters are these days as I rarely get to see much golf now it's all gone from terrestrial tv but I doubt there are any longer personalities like Seve, Lee Trevino or Jon Daley .

Same probably could be said for most other sports.

Out today playing in Bristol, weather was lovely with blue skies and sunshine but it was a touch chilly :p Course is definitely getting wet in places but stil some areas where it'll bounce/roll nicely which was surprising.

We do a longest drive comp on the 16 and I smashed one which was nice, 'only' 222 yards total but for Winter golf I'd take that any day! Almost drove the green, off the mats obvs, of course I then pitched it through the back of the green and only got a par but hey.

Not tried clubhouse for fitting but one thing I'd caution is that fitting is bloody tiring :p Doing a full bag seems crazy to me, just irons or Driver was plenty of shots in a short-ish period of time for me... Maybe ask if they'd do the full bag over 2 or 3 days/sessions?

The T250 Launch Spec do look good actually, nice and forgiving but basically 'traditional lofts' for that launch/spin goodness...

Might be a bit far for you to travel because the nearest ones to you are in Manchester and Salford. Unless you know different?

try the standard T250's before considering the launch spec... Unless you REALLY struggle to get the ball in the air I wouldn't go with the launch spec ones.

Custom fit will certainly help narrow that down.

Everything is far from here haha
Driving range i go to each week (twice this weekend) is a 65 mile round trip. The golf course i use is only a mile one which is nice. Nipping to Manchester for proper shopping, wigan for aquatics, Liverpool to get stuff on my car sorted etc doesn't seem to unusual.

@booyaka Average height of 7 iron according to top tracer was 42ft on my last range session which seems low, or at least looks it compared to some of my friends. No idea how accurate the thing is, launch angle averages at 15degree. Next lesson which uses trackman is a couple of weeks away so will see what they say then. Issues with club fitting around here is they don't have a massive selection, carus does but they dont sell titleist and i'd hate to spend over 1 k on irons not trying titleist then they turn out to be the best uns.

100% you need to test them - However, the launch spec T250's are mainly aimed at a fairly select group of slow swing speed/older players who struggle with ball speed, therefore launch angle and spin.

T250's and T350 are more likely combo for someone who has a decent ball speed and still need some launch.

I've got 4 and 5 iron in the T250's and 3 iron T250u and they are excellent for long irons to hit. Feel very easy to hit and get airborne without having to try.

That is a very low peak height, around half what I get according to Trackman and I don't have a high swing speed. In your case I expect it's a combination of club speed and maybe shutting the face at impact looking at your launch angle. A good reference for launch angle is around half the clubs static loft, for an iron.

Yeh i've made some grip changes to help with not closing the face so much, see what the trackman shows as my 7 iron loft is 31degree according to this https://pluggedingolf.com/pxg-0311-p-gen2-irons-review/ which would my average launch angle on top tracer of 15 about being right.
Mixture of technique and not fitted clubs i guess. On the upside i get around ok still.

Can anyone recommend some half decent balls to gift as a xmas present ? Partners brother has just taken up golf, i have no idea whats semi good etc.

Kinda depends on budget, and how good he is :p

Assuming low but not nothing budget and that he's a complete beginner he's likely to be losing several balls per round so even "lakeballs" might be an idea for just a bunch of cheap random balls but I'd probably go for something like the Srixon AD333. It's cheap-ish at ~£23 per 12 balls and is a decent enough ball...

Do like the idea of lake balls and did look at them. Something if definitely buy if I was starting out, giving the fact you can try a few balls out etc and find what you like but as a Xmas present am not sure lol.

Will definitely look at the Srixon's.
