Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 8th December 2025]

Oh, this will not end well.

When did he sign his current contract?
The day before he dropped off a cliff, a lad I work with called it last season, he said as soon as salah gets his bumper new contract, his performances would fall off a cliff and he was right

Salah has had blips in form before and recovered. But previously a good amount of the team and their style of play was built around him, Slot is now changing that dynamic and I suspect that along with other factors we may not be aware of this has affected Salah and his performances. Either way you look at the current situation at Liverpool is that they are in dire straits and something needs to change, that change if Slot has lost the boot room is likely to be Slot exiting the club and a new manager coming in.

There is clearly allot more going on. Salah form aside him waving bye to the fans, hinting after Brighton he maybe gone etc

Him not bringing on Salah today didn’t make sense but allot of Slots tactical choices make zero sense this season

Cheisa and many who do make change are ditched

Elliott couldn’t get a look in either last year even if he did well in a cameo appearance as an example

I think Slot does have his favourites and if your in that camp your fine if not we’ll tough ****

Didn't watch the game but the Salah situation was inevitable, it was only a matter of when. He's always had an ego about him and he was never going to accept not playing every game. He'll probably end up in Saudi next month.

Salah is a **** but I'd be over the moon if I was a Liverpool fan. Could've gone for nothing, signed a new deal and now is trying to engineer his way out. You get another suspiciously large bag of Saudi money heading to the premier league. Problem is moved and money to spend.

Salah going doesn’t fix this seasons issues.

Slot isn’t setting us up right, isn’t changing players right. These bits are nothing to do with Salah.

Sort of sounds like , if you read between the lines, what Salah is basically saying is "Its me or him (Slot), make your choice". Salah hasnt been in great form this season, then again many in the team havent been and the question would be, how much of that is because of Salah and how much is because of decisions made by Slot. Does a player, even an old player, really go from one of their best ever seasons to being no good a season later, I'm not so sure. Feels like this interview is Salah drawing a battle line in the sand, will be interesting over the coming weeks to see what Liverpool do here. Do they opt to cash in on Salah in January/Summer or do they opt to wave goodbye to Slot and keep their "star" player.

The problem is Salah hardly tracks back and has left our RB exposed and overwhelmed.
He even said that when he’s spoken to the manager (a while back) that as long as he didn’t have to run back much he’d get goals. Teams know that, exploit it and when Slot’s tried to rebalance the team it’s been more consistent but still not 100% working.
Plus his form, along with many others has been poor. If Gheui and Leoni had been either brought in or stayed fit, I think both Virgil and Konate would have been out of the team.

Doesn’t matter if you’re on £50 a week or £500,000 if you’re not able to do defensive work as part of your role then doesn’t matter if you’re Salah or Szoboszlai, you shouldn’t be in the team unless we’re able to accommodate that style of play which we can’t. The dynamic has changed and the personnel with it.

Salah doesn’t say a word unless something affects him. Great player but his ego shines through and the dummy goes flying. Remember he did the same with Klopp.

I’d take Saudi money in January if he’s going to be petulant and angling for a move anyway.

That's always been the case, Mane and Firmino, and later Diaz, Jota and Even Nunez all put a shift in often to the detriment of their own game to cover for Salah, which is totally fine when he was the best player on the pitch, it's superstar privilege, the only rules are you can only have one or two of them AND they have to perform like a superstar all the time.

That doesn't absolve Slot and his actual ability, It's not just this season, last season this game would have gone pretty much the same except the work rate in the squad, and maybe a bit of luck would have meant it ended 3-2 and everyone would ignore the performance over the result.

The game before is a glaring example, you're forced to pick a CB at right back, so you don't play your one right-winger in Salah, play a central midfielder on the right and so have to push the centre back really high while on the other side play the new flying fullback deep and inside and the only winger you have on the pitch drops back into left back, those sorts of things are on the manager trying to be too clever or stubborn who knows.

Unsuprisingly most of the talk even now is all Liverpool :p

However, it was Villa with the result of the weekend.

Shaping up to be a very interesting season now.

Still make Arsenal slight favourites, but really, no idea who will win it...
