The Liverpool Club Thread. **No Spoilers** *New Sponsors, Comedy Central!*

As Jim said, maybe he's offering some words of wisdom that acting like a dick (which he's hopefully aware he did himself) isn't a good look, especially if you're reflecting on on your career when it's over. (This is hoping that the ego deflates and you are able to self-reflect of course)

But for Salah to say he "doesn't have to earn his place" isn't IMHO the best way to put your point across. That's egotistical.

I'm not admonishing Slot here, as he has to work things out, but just because a player was able to do something in the past, doesn't mean you're an automatic pick if the performances aren't there now. A lot of the players wouldn't be in the side if there was enough players to choose from, especially at the heart of the defence.

Not a liverpool supporter, but the one thing that gave Salah ammo was that in the 3 games he was benched, there wasn't a discernible improvement. If Pool had went and won those 3 games at a canter, or showed vastly improved performance, he couldn't have said a thing. But he picked his time rather precisely. With no real change, he'll argue that he is been scapegoated for problems that are much deeper than just his drop-off in performance. Mind you the other side is that they didn't get perceptibly worse, which is a concern for him.

That doesn't excuse the rather cry-baby outburst.

Awfulot of rumors that Alonso will be getting the chop at Madrid, possibility that he ends up here if that happens??

I think that's a hell of a prospect if the Club feel like they aren't getting the best out of Wirtz and decide Slot has run out of time (which I think is a bit harsh tbh)

I could definitely see that happening, if Alonso is up for it, supposedly Real are hanging Alonsos future on the game against Man City, maybe City could do us a favour for a change :)

Here’s hoping he starts but scores a hatrick of own goals at the weekend

Seriously though, imagine having an ego that big even when you’ve been playing terribly.

Well he's not travelling to Inter and I'd be surprised to see him at Anfield at the weekend either. The Club have drawn their line in the sand and do hold all the cards in terms of contract.

If the club are indeed backing slot then I do worry that they'll stick with him for the foreseeable future, regardless of results.

I’d be happy with this, Alonso knows Wirtz and how to use him and would likely reintroduce the high intensity press that we were used to under Klopp. But he will need to turn around the teams form rapidly, no a small order but maybe boosted by the fact we’re near another transfer window.

J

the same Rooney that wanted to move numerous times, including handing in transfer requests only to get to get himself a nice fat contract increase? he's the last guy you should pay attention to about 'destroying legacy'
Rooney didn't go public with that, Fergie did. Rooney question the Clubs ambition to the club and Fergie made it public. How many other times did he request a move?

Honestly I can't see Salah staying, he'd have to do an almighty u-turn and apologise for that to happen which I doubt very, very much he will do. Even the very pragmatic Alisson said, "Him not being available is a consequence of what he did. He is smart enough to know that."

Time will tell, but I expect Liverpool will be trying to cash in January, or definitely in the summer.

I'd be amazed if Salah's at the club on Feb 1st and I don't think the club will be that concerned about it either. There will have been people at the club that didn't want to give him his last contract, heck Ian Graham (our former head egghead) admitted that he didn't want to or at least had reservations about giving him his previous contract. The club is run by cold, calculating people who would have been looking purely at what they expect to get out of Salah in the future rather than what he's achieved in the past and they'd have known a drop off was coming sooner or later - I guess the reason they gave him his new deal is because of the backlash they'd have faced had he left in the summer but primarily because they knew they'd be able to move him on to Saudi fairly easily if they needed to.

As I mentioned the other night, this situation has been on the cards for probably 3 years now. A point was going to come where Salah's performances meant he couldn't start every week and he was never going to accept that. It's probably in everyone's interests if he goes in January, which is why I can't see any other outcome. For such a legend to leave like this isn't nice but I'm not sure any other outcome was likely - the club weren't going to let him go until they got every last drop of output out of him, especially with the Saudi joker card up their sleeve and Salah was never going to bow out quietly, playing 2nd fiddle to Gakpo.

I can’t see Salah’s ego in Saudi tbh. He will want to prove he’s still good enough for a top European club, I guess the problem is that anyone that can afford him, doesn’t need him.

MLS perhaps? Isn't one of the Inter Miami quartet retiring? It's actually two of them: Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets. That frees up a lot of wages and instantly makes Inter Miami the team to support for North Africans. I could see it.

Folk said the same about Ronaldo. Ultimately I reckon he’ll follow the money. He’s bound to realise at some point he’s not the player he once was and that a wadge of cash to play in a farmers league is better than sitting on the bench at a proper football club.
