Central Bedfordshire Council has told us recycling collections will resume from Monday 15th December, following the appointment of a new contractor.Looks like we've just had the same issue too... our town council posted some information from Central Bedfordshire council about green (dry recycling) collections being suspended too. The contractor who treats the recycling waste has suspended their service with only one working day of notice.
On the run up to Christmas too, this is madness. There is word that they are trying to resolve this before next week, but not sure about that one.
Apparently, the previous contractor who treated dry recycling had a fire at their treatment facility, and they wanted to pass over the entire additional cost to the council.
Council:
"This would have been the new contract price and added millions of pounds in costs over the remainder of the contract. The contract we have protects the council in these circumstances and we do not agree to pay this additional amount. We are holding the contractor to account for this."
At least they were quick to turn this issue around, especially during this run up to Christmas. @Werewolf I wonder if your recycling collections pause was also related to this?
I had forgotten how great they were. Although it does take a little bit of effort!
