Steam sale now .... Off

I should probably avoid buying any new games as I hardly play the PC games I already own. These days playing a console is just so much easier.
I agree that console gaming is easy but not that it’s easier. Bazzite or SteamOS on a PC give a great experience from buying to playing games. Windows may make life difficult but I can’t comment as I’ve not used Windows in years now

I've got a daunting amount of unplayed pc games across Steam, Epic, GoG, EA and Ubisoft Connect. Maybe I should get a console instead!

Fair point. I guess I just like lying on my bed playing games rather than on a slightly less comfortable PC chair :D. I have a gaming laptop I need to get up and running again so will probably game more then on PC.

Really, you want to talk about things being easy and then you talk about Linux lol. I've used both recently and someone who prefers console gaming is not going to go through that nonsense.

SteamOS hides a lot of linux though

Oh yeah for sure. I just meant I thought it was a bit.... Ambitious to think someone who prefers console gaming now would want to go through all the config and faff.
Case in point, theres no Nvidia app so have to Google how to do things like perma turn on vsync, and change all the settings you want on globally yada yada.

It's not pick up and play for an optimal experience, for want of a better phrase.

I don't know about nVidia, as both my main PC and handheld are AMD based (and I only use my bedside/server pc - 780ti) for watching video.

I am impressed with how much progress has been made with Linux (and especially gaming Linux), but agree you'd have to be prepared to put some time into getting it set up right for your needs (whether that be a couple of hours or a couple of days). I really should try and 'main' Linux for a bit soon, as things about Windows still annoy me.

If you want a pretty much PnP setup for TV gaming, Windows + launching straight to Steam Big Picture is probably the easiest way to go (and I say this from the POV of using my PC on my TV as my main entertainment device, with a wireless KB+trackpad.... but I've always preferred proper desktop environments anyway)

I have a steamdeck, it's great, but surely you are not suggesting faffing about with which version of proton to use with different games, or jumping through hoops to get games on different stores to work (try playing fallguys on steamdeck - it's possible with heroic etc but a continual faff)
then there are the games which just don't work at all on steamOS .
sure SOME games it's easy playing on a pc, and some are just fine on steamOS. but for a complete library you need windows imo
and consoles are just easier. less compatibility issues, less bugs (though some exist) , less faffing with antivirus software etc.

I still would not give up my gaming pc however

Just on this, sorry don't want to derail to much, but you can copy some epic and gog from a windows install to steam OS and then in steam add the non steam game, go to the game priorities and set emulation to proton highest which is 10 I think. Send to work for a few I tried, and can also be used for setup exe files as well.

I only buy from Wishlist when on sales and have storage space to install it

Yeah I should caveat that I won't buy stuff not on offer. Space not an issue since I got a good deal on some 4TB M2s! Plus a lot of the games are smaller install sizes. Plus I still run the game through deal checkers, even saving the odd £1-2 adds up over quite a few games, but if it's less than a quid I generally won't bother.
