Oldest active account?

I've been a member for more than half of my life. Good god :D

The bit that's really frightening is when you realise there are people on here who joined up when they were in Uni, since then they've finished uni, got married, bought houses, had kids and their kids are now leaving uni themselves.

Yup, I was 16 when I started this account, although I did have account pre nuke as well so more likely around 15 when I first joined the forums. I’m 40 in Feb…

My first online account was Argos in March 1999, aged 20.

eBay and PayPal were in January 2001, aged 22. That's still effectively 25 years ago now!

Overclockers was in Summer 2004. Amazon in September 2004.

YouTube January 2007.

Facebook, Steam, WhatsApp, Spotify not until 2016 (late on the bandwagon there).

Never done TiktTok / video shorts, Snapchat, Telegram, Instagram, or whatever youngsters / influencers use nowadays. I'm a gen-Xer, not a gen-Zer.

Edited for typos.

These very forums were what got me into joining the OCUK purchasing team. I was a regular poster here, and a role came up and was listed on the forums, I applied and had 3 interviews and was offered the job. I accepted and that was in 2006. Was at OCUK in the purchasing team until 2013, when I left to join Antec and I've been at Antec ever since.

I have Spie (Mark) and the forums to thank for my career progression in the IT gaming industry.

I remember going out on a Friday and Saturday night, getting drunk and coming home and browsing the forums, drunk - posting some stuff that the Mods were not massively impressed with and I did get a couple of suspensions. Oh to be young....

The Big Nuke was in October 2002.

In the period leading up to the nuke, we had experienced problems with the forum which culminated in the database becoming corrupt. We were closed to new registrations and doing anything in the back end (editing posts etc) was painfully slow. It was decided that the forums would be rebuilt and the database blitzed.

The OcUK Forums were closed for a day or so and finally came back online very late in the evening of Thursday 17th October 2002 following many F5 keys being destroyed.

The mod team of the time were pre-registered to stop anyone pinching their usernames. A few members managed to register before midnight and that's why you'll see some people with a "Joined" date of 17th October 2002. We were very busy on the 18th October as the membership woke up an almost completely empty forum with just a handful of threads and very few users. We'd changed from the purple background and gun avatars to the now familiar blue background and avatars based on gangsters a few months earlier when we upgraded from vBulletin 2.0.0 to 2.2.5 so there was some familiarity but there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth because all post counts had been reset by necessity.

On the 17th October 2002 we had 91 user registrations. Of these, 14 have been online in the last month.

On the 18th October 2002 we had a massive 1,173 user registrations and of those, 157 have been online in the last month.

By the end of 2002, we'd had 2,448 people sign up to the forums and around 20% of those have been online in the last month.

@Dr House @G-Man @Ghuraba @helmet @Ian_Eb @miller745 @[TW]Fox - These all registered on the 17th and have been online in the last month.

There's a handful more, but they were Dons or Commissarios at some time, so I'm not tagging them.

We have just one person with an original join date of 16th October 2002 ;)
8468 days between 16th October 2022 and today. Which gives you an average of 40.68 posts per day.

Impressive.

Maybe someone can confirm this, but I have a really really vague memory of there being a member (Pre-Nuke) who was a member of a late 1980s - early 90s alternative group. Alternatively, I am just old and have lost my mind :-)
