Solar panel production figures

I was saving plugging the car in for tomorrow as I know it will be a heavy day, but it actually looks a decent solar day, although cold and windy. I always reverse on the drive, so I can drive off, but to charge I have to drive on, so a bit of a faff if I decide to charge after I've got home.

I only ended up pulling 1.79 kwh extra from the grid, so 52p, then we need to deduct the cost if off peak, which would have been 12.5p, so actual cost was about 40p. I'm probably going to get a fair few more of these days through to January, but I'll log them and see what the cost is.

A very poor day yesterday.

SolarEdge: 0.3 kWh
Garage: 0.52 kWh
North west roof: 0.46 kWh
House rear wall: 0.07 kWh
Peak power was 0.47 kW at 12:09

Total generated yesterday: 1.35 kWh
Total exported yesterday: 0.04 kWh
Total imported yesterday: 34.43 kWh

You’ll probably get 50% more solar in Jan so despite it being colder, it may not be as bad as you think.

With my large but sub-optimal solar setup and 13.5kwh battery, my average import costs in Dec and Jan are broadly the same.

Yes I think as the month goes on we'll certainly get more solar, Dec 2024 194 kWh, Jan 2025 290 kWh, but I do wonder if that'll be offset by the generally colder weather and thus the heat pump using more, yesterday it used 15.5 kWh. Time will tell.

It's certainly not going to be anything significant to worry about, and not enough to justify an additional battery.

Last winter I was 390kwh in December vs 590kwh in Jan but I recall switching to my overnight heating regime during this time which uses more energy.

You also get a fair number of defrosts on hot water cycles in Jan which you don’t really get in December.
