The Christmas on your own thread

My Christmas movie is 'The Martian'. For years without fail, that goes on, on Xmas afternoon. And a few beers are drunk.

Without darkening the thread to much, I'm always mindful of the fact that Christmas is a bloody awful time of year for some people. It was for me many years ago.
I haven’t seen that film in ages. Might give that another watch after I get home from dinner at a friends this year.

Off topic adjacent, but I would really recommend not wasting time with game of thrones. It was one of the best tv shows ever but the way later seasons were handled makes it excruciatingly impossible to recommend.
But then it’s about the journey not the destination. Agreed that last season was an abomination, but it doesn’t detract from how good the other seasons were.

I’ve got a family meal today but honestly I’d rather just be on my own with my new monitor and card playing some games! I plan to get back asap and do exactly that. Happy Christmas to you all :)

@413x - I’m really sorry to hear about your mum that sounds rough to not want a visit at Christmas.

Me and the wife flew to Fuerteventura and we’re here from the 20th-10th of Jan.

Been lovely so far.

Hire a car and drive to Playa De Cofete. The drive is like something off Top Gear, absolutely phenomenal. Keep in mind that not all hire cars are insured to drive it though, so check first. And excellent way to spend an afternoon.

That’s the plan although for such a small island, it’s still a 2 hour 45 minute drive.

We’ve hired through Avis, they’ve told us no track roads, only asphalt but the rep said everyone just drives their hire car anyway so I’ll do the same, taking notice of when the roads change from acceptable to dangerous. :p

It does a bit, you need payoff and resolution or a lot of it is just not good. Perhaps you're right in that if you don't know the end is going to go massively downhill then it's possible to enjoy the earlier stuff, but it's not something I could ever rewatch, knowing what u know.

I can't believe you're spending three weeks on that little island. You're gonna be sick to death of it by the end, mark my words :p

Maybe :p we’ve got a trip planned to Lanzarote for 4 nights from the 3rd-7th and then back to Fuerteventura until we fly home. Should keep us occupied. :p
