Wow, the Samsung Eco Plus 2TB I bought on the 19th Nov is now doubled to like £185!

The Crucial 500G has gone from £40 to £70

The WD Black 4TB NVME I paid £240 for in February is now £350.

In total that's like £250 more between them.

Managed to slowly row my way to a good gen 4 4TB for boot and big games/etc and a decidedly average gen 4 4TB for everything else.

This is the way. Gen 5 isn't needed in a price crunch situation, Gen 4 is not either really but is the mainsteam now so highest amount available. Gen 3 more than serviceable but as said, no longer mainstream and thus prices are already higher than normal (for out of date/un/lowstocked stuff).

Yep, same here. Crucial T500's 4TB at £238 each earlier this year, now a single drive is £360, a +50% increase.

Because I got a new M4 Mac Mini/MBA at the start of 2024 I went a little nuts on my storage to go with the new Mac, being a base model mac with only 256g of internal.

I got a 10TB external got basically general stuff to throw in it.
2TB + 4TB NVME for fast access for photos/Steam library
500g 2230 size nvme to make a thumb drive
1TB 2230 size nvme to go into a USB hub to be my portable storage for the MBA
2TB Samsung Evo above because I needed more than 1TB on the go (the 1TB above isn't quite enough).
I also have another 1TB external NVME drive I bought because it was cheap to be a spare.

I thought the price was so reasonable that I "gave" a 500g nvme in an Sabrent enclosure to a friend when I gave her the photos.....that was worth £50 last month, it's now worth £100 lol

I hate to think how much more it would cost now.

The Crucial T710 4TB non heatsink version I bought recently started out at £401.99 at release in early July, the lowest its been since was £289.99 in October but only for one day. I bought it during black Friday week for £319.99. Its now priced at £447.99 the highest its ever been at the rainforest.

Bought a 2tb 990pro in December 2024, was £80 after Samsung cashback. Same drive is £200+ now.

It is the smaller SSD type drives, meaning in NVME form factor, that are also increasing.....

A 2242 added to my basket, a list of things I bought from AliExpress in September of this year.....

adding that same drive from the same store, all sizes in stock, now.....

I had bought a couple of them, 1TB capacity, one on Sept and another in October for a fiver more.
I went back yesterday, to check about ordering a spare.................unless any spectacular sales occur I will leave it..!

I finally jumped on an SSD when 64Gb cost me £132.82 back in 2010 (£207 in todays money).

I'm not making a point with that, just a rambling man.

I remember when my dad got me a SCSI drive from work, converting to prices now £3500-£7500 back then 20-40MB PATA was what "normal" people could buy, and those weren't cheap either

Actually, I paid £144 for 1TB in 2021 to put in my PS5.

That is probably the most expensive in terms of GB per £ wise that i've paid. Since I am on the Mac I never bought NVME up until then.

I have just needed to £38 for the same capacity from an EBay dealer, new. That is a Transcend brand at 512GB. They are trending higher it seems.

Mine is a Samsung OEM one, it went into a 10GB enclosure anyway and 4x faster than it needed to be.

I've got one of these 512GB USB Flash Drives for £59.99 which I like very much...



To test the real world speeds I transferred a 158GB file to it and then transferred that same 158GB file back from it. Maxed out at up to 1590MB/s reading from it and up to 680MB/s writing to it.

No thermal throttling issues and not a lot more than one of those you've linked to above.

I did similar, grabbing at around £160. Thankfully, I grabbed other NVMEs and a Samsung 870 4tb SSD at similar capacities, for future use. Did not think that they would increase in cost as they are doing though.

Likewise I bought a Crucial P3 Plus 4TB NVMe during Black Friday week in November 2023 for £163.99 for two reasons, firstly I only had a gen 3 motherboard back then and gen 5 drives were very expensive about £140 per TB IIRC.

I've just started a home mini server with an elitedesk. Looking to fill that with 2 x 4tb nvme + 1 x 4tb 2.5" sata ssd.... Wrong time to be looking to buy ....

Currently scavenging a circa 2010 256gb sata ssd and 512gb 2018 500gb nvme to get things up and running!

I bought a WD SN850X 4TB at the end of 2023 for £215 (I think I saw it for £200 on OCUK at the lowest point earlier this year/late last year). Now it is £360-380. Glad I shouldn’t need any more space for a few years. Unless GTA 6 comes in at 2tb

I have a spare 4TB portable HDD that was used for my Xbox, since I no longer play on it, I have unplugged it and now doing nothing, that is my overflow until things settles down. Hopefully it will but I should have enough SSD to last me a while.
