New planned driving rules announced

Under 25's should be restricted to 100bhp.
I would implement the same system as it is for bikes, but maybe not the A2 to A when you've to redo the Mod1 and Mod2. After passing your license, you're only allowed to drive 100bhp, after 2 years that limit automatically lifts.

my 1st car was 1.4 pug 306. iirc it was around 75bhp.
it was fine, cruised at 80!all day on the motorway and I still managed to get pulled doing 109.34mph (admittedly with a tail wind and minor down hill slope ;) )

it makes me smile when I hear people complaining about cars under 200bhp being slow

People often forget the difference between top speed (going fast) and power (getting to speeds rapidly).

The standards should be stricter too. Technically I can drive without glasses, but that's insane, nobody with my eyesight should be driving without glasses.

If you can only read at 20m you'd better be able to stop in 20m minus reaction time. So like 5m breaking distance or something. Great we can see whatever we're crashing into.

But if I pass my test at 30?

All drivers should have mandatory eye tests if they hold a driving license. I took it for granted people just did get their eyes tested anyway.

You dont need to read it to see it but i take your point that if you need glasses for distance vision you should wear them for driving.

To be fair, anyone in charge of a potentially lethal vehicle should be subject to regular eye tests, no matter what age they are.

My mate failed his driving test because he asked the examiner where the car was. He couldn't locate it with his white stick...

Many don't wear their glasses while driving. Which is pretty baffling.
