**THE NVIDIA DRIVERS THREAD**

Always latest stable version for me.

But whats the point if driver does not say new feature or performance upgrade?

Back in the day almost every driver would come with a few percent improvement in this game or that. Now you get fixes for things that do not apply to hardware configuration you have or games you are not playing.

I just update when needed. Like recently for example I got Dying Light The Beast. That said my driver was too old and to update. Just in time with the new DLSS4.5 update :D

Up to date game support and bug fixes.

I guess you do play new games all the time so probably more relevant to you. But if I have not installed a game that is newer than the drivers I have, then I don't bother as it doesn't make sense. No point updating and potentially creating a headache imo.

Especially now that they keep having so many issues and hotfixes due to getting ai to make their drivers

Everything i've read or seen about this new driver and DLSS 4.5 update has been pretty negative, it's all getting rather confusing for gamers.

Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Use DLSS 4 if you don't have a 4 or 5 series card.

For 4 and 5 owners, use L and ultra performance if you're targeting 4K, M and performance for everything else.

I stand to be corrected, of course.

Yeh, i'm seeing posts from people seeing better quality and higher performance with DLSS performance and M

Just an idea for people saying the new drivers cause problems - it might be an issue because of Windows and how it’s updated over time.

I bumped into some strange issues with drivers that were only resolved with a fresh windows install. No issues since then with Nvidia drivers.

Yep. I had this some months ago and I hadn't done a fresh windows install for a long time. Did a fresh install, everything worked perfectly fine after.

Historically i have always done a fresh install after i get a new GPU. Even if same manufacturer, but even more so if changing from AMD to Nvidia or vice versa.

I actually used to do a fresh install every 6-12 months when we were on HDD's and used to see a nice boost in snappiness of windows. These days it is 1-2 years for a fresh install.

Sounds about right. It’s not something I ever really considered doing before as I don’t mess around with windows, but apparently updating Windows over time just compounds errors and making things weird.

For me, I started getting crashing in games out of nowhere, after I updated to Windows 25h2 and installed new Nvidia drivers. I tried everything… rolling back drivers… bios updates, it was driving me nuts.

Starting out fresh = zero issues.

Apparently, for some reason Windows 11 can cause errors with where copies of Nvidia drivers are installed. I’m not an expert but anyone interested can look it up. Tbh it’s probably more productive to just do a fresh install than understand it :p

I generally have no issues with GPU drivers, Likely because I reinstall Windows every 3 months and the entire install process with tweaks I now have down to maybe 2-3 hours.

Windows gets bogged down too easily and a fresh install really does make a difference especially if you use Winhance or MicroWin to debloat and desloppify a Windows 11 ISO.

Would you mind direct messaging me the process please as I’m due a fresh install soon.

Same here I always update all drivers when a new version arrives, same principle with bios updates too - despite many saying only update bios if you have an issue!

With regards to DLSS, I have tried experimenting with using later DLSS versions in older games but I've often seen either worse performance or visual artifacts. Forbidden West for example has severe ghosting on the latest DLSS. Someone more knowledgeable will likely correct me but I'm not convinced of the benefits of upgrading the version of DLSS if the game was not developed with it in mind.
