*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Im still on the fence re a switch 2. £370 i can get one with Mario kart but there doesnt seem to be a whole lot else for it. I have a half decent gaming laptop so have that for the AAAs
The next Nintendo Direct is rumoured to be early February, which isn't far away, so you may want to see what is announced then and decide if any 1st party titles catch your eye.

I'm guessing you didn't own an original Switch? If so there are a ton of brilliant first party Nintendo games I would recommend.

Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are amazing and run so much better on the S2, same with Mario Odyssey. Animal Crossing is getting a S2 upgrade soon, even without that the loading times are much improved (but still a pain).

Mario 3D World is probably my favourite Mario of recent times (yes it was on Wii U) but it's such a fun time, especially local multiplayer. Mario Wonder is also ace if you prefer side scrolling platformers.

DK Bananza is probably the biggest exclusive, heard great things and got positive reviews but I'm waiting for a discount.

Metroid Prime 4 has mixed reviews, depends how you feel about Metroid and also the janky open world bit sounds like filler and a reflection of the troubled development. Supposedly looks stunning from an art direction perspective on S2.

I have an OLED switch but I inherited it, it doesnt have a dock and one joycon as drift so I havent touched it. For £370 with Mario kart I'll probably take the plunge.

I do love a decent Mario and why not play it on the best hardware you can...ill buy one today.

Switch 2 has been bought and on its way to me. Someone in smyths told my partner that just dance wouldnt work as it isnt a switch 2 game...now im assuming they are pretty much all backwards compatible right?
I've not found a game that isn't yet that's for sure.

So ive had it for an hour. .well i say I, its been stolen by my partner but initial impressions are that its a solid piece of kit for sure. Very happy with how Mario kart looks and feels, I see complaints about depth but its Mario kart...solid gameplay and fun multiplayer will do me. Online seems very good value, not as fleshed out as others but its a lot cheaper.

Happy so far, will pick up a zelda at some point im sure, I havent properly had a nintendo consider since the 3ds

Sounds like you still haven't got one.

Bet your partner is happy tho.

Has anyone got a third party dock? I'm looking at getting a second dock so we can move it between rooms. Looks like some docks had issues after new firmware so just wondered if someone actually has one that still works. Or do I just stump up the extra cash and get a second Nintendo one? £90 just seems a bit steep!

Steep?! It's ****** vertical!

I used a generic "jemdo" TV cable which does the job even after the update. It even works with the Switch 1 and Steam Deck.

One thing I'd like to point out is, if you get a cheap one for now, the likelihood is over time (same happened with Switch 1) the official docks will probably get easier to get hold of at a cheaper price second hand or even essentially new, via eBay and the likes; a lot of the cheap docks don't include a power cable either though, so you've got to factor in an appropriate power supply, as well.

I notice the Jemdo ones seem to be fairly well fedback on, but you do need to make sure you upgrade the firmware on them as required.

So Zelda tears of the kingdom...can I just use a switch 1 version and get an upgrade pack or is it better to just pay £50 from currys?

If you have the Online Expansion pack, the upgrade is already included in that

If you already own The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch and have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership (either Individual or Family), you will be able to access the upgrade pack for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for no additional cost when it launches.

Yes, if you go into the Nintendo Online section on the console, there is a link to the special download there (assuming you have this).
Otherwise, you need to pay for the upgrade if you have a Switch 1 copy.

Some games get free upgrades, others have to pay an amount.

Was playing a multiplayer game before so using each joycon separately, then wanted to play a different game and use them as one controller, couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get them to return to a single controller operation.

It's the same result in the end, but if you're someone who sells your games later on then it might be better to buy the physical Switch 2 edition (assuming you don't already have the Switch 1 game).

...and yeah as above, if you have the premium Online subscription (Online + Expansion Pass), the upgrade for the switch 1 game is available for 'free'. The upgrade pack is £7.99 otherwise.

I think in that case you'd go to Controllers > Change Grip/Order from the home screen
