EV general discussion

Not really no, the power modules are in the main cabinets that distrubute power.

Only Tesla really do that split and the clue was always the fact they had 1A 1B etc. What experience have you had when DC charging EVs between Charge providers, we are really keen to hear your experience.
In fairness there are a lot of modern fast chargers out there which power share.

For example all of the dual connector Alpitronic chargers which are very popular will be power sharing and Ionity use those on their network among others.

Similarly the currently favoured Gridserve chargers (dual connector ABB units) will also be power sharing.

The other thing is the cable. Some of these high power chargers don’t have water cooled cables so they can’t sustain the high amps for long periods of time. This is more pronounced the higher the ambient temperature.

I don’t know if that will be an issue for the iX3 specifically but the longer these newer cars can sustain the high amps, the more it becomes a factor in overall charging speed.

That’s all assuming the site isn’t busy and hitting into its overall limit anyway.

They rarely share like the Tesla urinal model though is the point.
True and they have a lot more power to give which lessens the impact when you are sharing.

That said the urinal rule only applies to old V2 chargers. V3 and V4 can share power between cabinets so the site limit is the ultimate determining factor. A V3/4 Tesla site will only be provisioned at around 100kw per stall if the site is at capacity so you aren’t charging particularly quickly on a busy site anyway. Fine for a relatively slow charging Tesla (compared to an iX3), not so much for the newer EVs on the block.

It’s even less on a V2 site, just 65kw per stall, those really creak if they get busy.

I’ve got no idea what Ionity, gridserve etc provision at but it’s probably not much more given most cars charge pretty ‘slowly’ still (fast compared to an old leaf mind).

Yep it's usually much less than peak capability (there's no set ratio will depend on grid connection availability as well)

But there aren't fleets of iX3s all turning up at 2% at the same time. Even if there are 6 iX3 plugged in at the same time odds are at least 1 is finished charging and another 1 is coming to an end, another 1-2 might be close to 80% and slowing down anyway

Only £18k for 130 miles range (probably riding like a pensioner), bargain right?

Obviously not for noise, but from a practical standpoint, I would have thought an electric motorbike would make a great daily for commuting.

Doesn't need to have a huge motor and battery, so even if it only has a short range enough for a daily commute, it might be quicker to charge, which might make it practical to do overnight from a granny charger...handy if like most bikers, you keep it in a garage?

I had one in Thailand, was great as could charge it at the villa but no one hears them coming like the ICE bikes so people always stepping out infront of you

Absolutely, I see quite a few little moped type EV bikes around, but going out for a blast with your mates wouldn’t be too much fun I reckon.

Not going to lie, I don't completely dislike the look of that iX3....

From certain angles in the right colour, the new design language might not be too bad. Bonus points for its looks if any of the current lineup is parked alongside it for sure. :D

God only knows what manufacturers will have to do to get bikers over to EV.

I guess that depends on the type of biker - can have some fun going futuristic with the electronics and styling for certain types but that isn't going to appeal to many types of biker especially those who like their lazy cruisers where the engine is part of the fun.

how long before we see marquez on an e bike EGP

seems that even the latest fastned 400KW chargers, adopting old style filling station format (slot in replacements) are shared bay :

Fastned have always built them like that where they have the space...

Here is a picture of the first one they ever built in the UK:

If you had used them you would know thats they default installation and somewhat of a USP. Exactly the same as the french auto route services too.

Make one where the motor goes BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRR BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...
I like the smooth quietness in the car but this is definitely what brings a smile to my face when I'm on two wheels

You can't placate most people with simulated sounds though - I always find it a bit irritating when people seriously suggest it like it is a viable alternative to the real thing :s
