NCP file for administration

Because they dont own the car park buildings, they have to lease them and its those landlords that are getting greedy.

Going into admin maybe a good mechanism to renogotiate those lease terms.

Seems an absurd middle man, why would the owners simply not run them as a car park and make bank? You need like 10 staff for each one, gonna be on minimum wage.

One near me has 800 spaces, £34 for all day. Higher rates per hour for shorter times. Assuming it's full 50% of the time, at the lower 24h rate on average that's 4.95 million a year with a wage cost of £250k. Some electric, water, maintenance supplies and it should be massively profitable. Buildings have been there decades so presumably paid off.

Fwiw, they died because they were bought by venture capital, got saddled with debt and that sunk them.

**** em anyway but, also, **** VC too
We need to ban Venture capital from buying UK businesses. It is invariably asset stripping and loading with debt to pay unsustainable dividends followed by bankruptcy. These should be businesses that pensions invest in for reliable long term returns.

You're a dreamer if you think the government will do anything to in any way help the people, if anything they might force all people with driveways to make it an NCP driveway

Used NCP a few years ago at Manchester Airport as they were cheaper than meet and greet etc, they were basically fine but the operation did seem a bit... unprofessional. Switched to the airport's own internal one and it was easier, and worth the extra £30 or so.
How car it be worth an extra £30? Drive in. Park car. Go to terminal. I don't get anyone who doesn't book the cheapest car park!

But, NPC are notoriously expensive for me!

the NCP one you have to have them bus you in and then phone them when you get out of the terminal to pick you up, the official one it was a 2 minute walk into the terminal and then you get your keys from the locker when you pick it back up.

There's one local NCP I actually don't mind in Bolton. £3 for the day and it's nice and secure plenty of parent and child/disabled bays.
But on the whole yes they are terrible.

Lots of hate for NCP here. Personally I think they were just as bad as the other parking companies I have to deal with, but not worse.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news to the people revelling in the the demise of NCP, but their replacements are unlikely to be any better!

I've had to contest fines from them a couple of times over the years. One was in Cardiff for an apparently overstay. No problem I'll send them the receipt, proof of payment, hours booked etc. I just got a flat rejection Email back despite me providing all the evidence.

Had to go through POPLA in the end. Horrible company.

Good.

I dropped my parents off at Gatwick a while back, paid for parking and everything.
I get a fine in the post, I first try to fight it and they reject my claim despite the evidence.

I take it to the Ombudsman, and get an email from the Ombudsman saying the retailer has gotten involved and they can no longer help with the claim. It sounded like the fine had been cancelled but I had no information from NCP or anything. So I spend time ringing those ******* up and they said as a gesture of good will they've removed the charge. I did laugh and say to the poor lady on the phone, it isn't goodwill when you're factually wrong.

The operator has contacted us and told us that they have withdrawn your appeal.

If you have already paid your parking charge, this is the reason your appeal will have been withdrawn. Unfortunately, you cannot pay your parking charge and appeal, which means that POPLA’s involvement in your appeal has ended. You will not be able to request a refund of the amount paid in order to resubmit your appeal to us.

If you have not paid your parking charge, the operator has reviewed your appeal and chosen to cancel the parking charge. As the operator has withdrawn your appeal, POPLA’s involvement has now ended and you do not need to take any further action.

Kind regards

POPLA Team

There was a NCP in the city centre where I live and the prices were comparable to the council charges. It was always busy but they sold it to another company who hiked the prices massively and now it's mainly empty.

Parking in general is a bit of a con these days and it is the local businesses that suffer. No wonder out of town retail parks are so popular when nipping to the shops costs £2.50 an hour in parking.

It's an unregulated industry. Government needs to pull themselves out their arse and get this code of practice out.

The BPA published their own code of practice last year for private parking operators to follow to "address" some of the concerns. A code of practice developed by the parking industry itself, effectively marking their own homework. Obviously, this has made no difference to these horrible practices.

Probably had lots of long term lease commitments with high fixed rent and rates then demand fell.

They're getting lots of hate but at least they provided parking spaces it's companies like parking eye that have an automated court claim model that make the big profits.

This is the crux of it. Retail parks, lots of free parking, usually coffee places and takeaway as well (Starbucks, Costa, fast food restaurants). No tramps or local scum because they can’t reach it.

Or i could go to my high street…which is full of youth, travellers, full of the usual betting shops, Turkish barbers etc, basically same as every other in the UK. Anything I can get from the high street I can get online quicker, cheaper because the shop won’t have it in stock but can “order” it for me, so no different than me then. Changing times, nothing is going to change that.
