Lets talk cruises

Am doing a cruise from barcelona to rome in May, but the return flight is really late so thinking I don't want to be heading to the airport right when I get kicked off the ship, anyone got experience of spending a day in Civitavecchia? Or Is it worth getting to the airport then heading into rome?

Wouldn't head to the airport, waste of half a day, we usually book the excursion which takes you someplace then a coach to the airport, means you don't have bags to lug around.

All checked in here for an 11 day Virgin med cruise, 5 excursions booked for places we've not been before, cruise will take us back to Crete which we spent 11 days on last year and Rhodes in which we're spending 11 days later this year so will be interesting to get a small taste of both.

Fingers crossed my bid to upgrade to a suite gets accepted.

Civi is a pretty crappy port, and hours from Rome.

Last time we just went to Rome, dropped our bags at some luggage storage thing at the main station (I think) and bummed around Rome for a few hours.

Is your flights booked as part of the cruise? you may find you don't have to leave the ship till a certain time.
Yeah, but I'm fairly sure Im going to have to be off by 9 or similar. If i can leave it later I will though for sure.

Booked Western Europe from Southampton on 5th September sailing on MSC Virtuosa. Did a Carribbean cruise with them October 24 and rated MSC. Looking forward to it!

Thought I would see how this thread was doing and where people were cruising to this year.

We had a brilliant cruise on Arvia around the East Caribbean last Nov - though we did see some people kicking off which was a 1st for us so no doubt they got booted off ship pronto.

We are headed back to the West Caribbean this Nov to see some islands we have not been to before and sailing on Britannia again. Also trying to squeeze in a cheeky fly cruise for a Greek Islands cruise June/July time.

Done my first mini cruise to Netherlands and really enjoyed it. Looking to hopefully look at ones that leave from closer to home in Dundee or Rosyth so its less travel before going. I'm thinking 5days to a week for my next one to somewhere like Norway etc. I'm not a sun seeker and dont like it too busy so would not be going on a mega cruise ship.

Fjords sounds like a great bet and one i would like to do but my Mrs prefers to have the sun. So cannot see us doing it anytime soon

Lucky enough I only live about 15 miles away from Southampton so easy for us.

Skipping this year as bathroom refurb is clocking almost 10 grand, but convinced a friend couple to go on a fjords cruise next year.

My missus is also a sun baby... but that being said she's dead keen to do the fjords based on the scenery etc. But definitely in summer :km:
