Hey all, so after the clock changes obviously last month affected everone just wondering what servers are best to automatically change time in things like CCTV systems etc..

Thanks

NTP doesn't typically offer TZ data and anything relating to daylight savings is typically set on the device itself (and/or the device handles that based on set timezone/location); so NTP server shouldn't really matter for that, just as long as it's reliable for syncing.
And certainly with the few CCTV and IP cameras i've used, there's usually a load of settings ('last X day of X month' and adjustment to time etc) to apply daylight savings.

NTP is always z.

It's sensible.

There will be a setting in the software somewhere, if it doesn't change to DST automatically.

And does your recorder automatically have its time changed for it? what about if powered down and restarted etc..

time.windows and so many others dont work

but i dont think you can select ntp and dst. Is that what you mean?

mine doesnt but wanted somehting to update it automatically like the alarms are updated through a server etc..

No it has separate settings for DST that I have to setup the dates for when it should switch, changing my NTP won't make a difference in that regard.

Timezone, and in turn daylight hour settings, data/information isn't handled by a NTP server; as @Feek mentioned, it'll always send Zulu/UTC/GMT.

Timezone and daylight (DST) settings will be handled by the device itself and you either specify the exact timezone on your CCTV cameras/NVR and it'll then automatically adjust times/clocks for DST or like on some CCTV cameras/NVR, you have to specify DST settings where you specifically set the DST options for your timezone, ie - on Hikvision it looks a bit like -

Here you would enable 'NTP' and enter a NTP server (not manual time sync), and then enable the DST options and set that accordingly. You may need to do this for the NVR and cameras or just the NVR, really depends on what device(s) you actually have.

Weirdly I came across an issue with my reolink cameras where one updated, but the other didn't. I set both to 0.uk.pool.ntp.org, one updated ok, the other didn't, so I tried time.windows.com and time.nist.gov, but the one just failed every time. Same subnet, same dns, same gateway. Weird.

/me smiles at his own stratum 1 NTP server :-)

Wow, it's really dusty in that far corner on the floor under my desk :o

I’ve configured the clocks going forward/back in each of the cams and then sync their times with a local NTP time service as without the time sync I’ve found the clocks in each cam drifts
