AMD Zen 6 rumours

The internet seems to think Zen 7 will also be coming to AM5 now, it almost makes me want to look out for cheap DDR5 kits just in case...
This is why I jumped to AM5 last September/October due to the rumours of Zen 6 and potentially Zen7 going that route. Luckily I bought my RAM kit about a week before things went haywire. My upgrade cost me £140 in total after selling a 5800X3D, Motherboard and RAM.

If you go for a 3D chip how important is fast DDR5 anyway? Also shouldn't there be deals on motherboards/CPUs right now to tempt people to buy. I figure 'cheap' 2nd hand ram, maybe 2nd hand 78003d for now, and wait for a good deal on a decent Mobo... I have a 5800x3d to sell, so should probably do that before the new ones come out. Is there any info on which boards will take the zen 6 chips yet?

It isn't such a big issue with the X3D chips so you would fair better with lesser RAM.

I looked at my motherboard, having only 2 slots of ram populated, got the idea maybe 64GB in summary would be ok, as agesa improvements made it fully stable. So, that's what I got just before prices went bonkers. I felt a bit "meh, do I need it actually?" for like 2 days and then "perfect timing!" feeling came. :) And now it's "damn, could use 128GB!". :)

I considered going 64Gb just because. But as I was aiming to do a cheap swap over, I stuck with 32Gb. I'll very likely not need 64Gb anyway for the foreseeable.

That's awesome value, mine was £135 in october 2024, obviously looser timings but I thought the amount would give me head room.
It was actually a member in here that pointed me to them. OCUK now sell the brand. I believe their parent company is SK Hynix.

I hope not, I've held back on upgrading on every new Zen release since Zen 3 as I've been happy with my AM4 setup as AM5 never seemed to offer that big of upgrade. If rumour is true then by the time they round to launching AM6 my CPU will be a museum piece.

Ballpark target for consumer DDR6 is late 2028 - my money would be on AMD tying AM6 to that.
With rumours saying consumer-level Zen 7 is early 2028 it's diffcult to forecast which platform it'll be on. I don't see them launching a whole new generation 6 months before a DDR change. I'd speculate on a Zen 6 refresh mid 2027 carrying them through to Zen7/AM6/DDR6.

I think it’s likely Zen7 will be an AM5 part and AM6 launches later with something else.

I hope the change the heat sink shape somehow, although it’s probably impossible. The bits that stick out are really unnecessary.
Yeah I'm always worried some thermal paste will get onto the edge contacts. They should just make the heatsink cover the whole chip.
