EV general discussion

So, my wife's car is turning into a pain in the arse, she has a MK1 Peugeot 3008 1.6 HDi, it's a bag of issues & I know I shouldn't have bought French but when it's working it's a nice enough run about.

In the last few weeks we've started to have DPF issues & noticed the AC has packed in (It packed in last year & a local place replaced part of the loom for £80 & it started working again). I went under it earlier & it looks like the Eolysis tank has **** itself & deposited it's contents all-over the underside of the car & & it seems to eat ball joints for fun.

Given she chucks £120 - £150 in the thing fuel wise i'm noticing some stuff online saying we can lease a brand new Vauxhall Frontera EV for about the same as what the 3008 costs in Diesel, we have a solar array & a battery at home so this seems too good to be true, any thoughts?

There are a few decent EV lease deals around at the moment - can't speak to whether there are any caveats or things to look out for though - so worth looking around at the offers.

EDIT: That said the price of quite a few nearly new, or not that old, used EVs is relatively low these days - might be a better use of the money.

They seem pretty much fine so long as you're fine with glacier performance (I can't see this really being remotely noticable unless you're hitting motorway regularly), we had a look round one but my wife absolutely hated the looks which ruled it out instantly. Lots of the Stellantis models around the same monthly lease cost so worth checking out which suits you best.

Renault 4 as above also doesn't tend to be too much more on a 24 month lease which would have been my pick of the cheap EVs. Albeit I was happy she went with the Abarth in the end.

I had the C3 for a week while my ID3 was being repaired which is the same car underneath. It was fine... But that was about it.

Out of the few EVs I've driven it was the one that still felt most like an ICE car

Couldnt really see a thread talking about EVs but i am interested as its just a matter of time before my eventual switch. I was interested to see how EVs have changed over the years. Very surprised in a recent visit to China how they seem to not have caught up but arguably be major competitor in the EV market. This vod seems to show this and got to admit pretty impressive.

In my defence the search function here is not on point. I must have searched 10+ times for cars, evs, electric vehicles. Titles, no titles and it brought back ancient posts.

Can a mod please close down this thread. thanks.

Not to mention the 900 post thread on Chinese cars also:

It’s not surprising Chinese companies have caught up, the number of engineers working in this space dwarfs western companies. Not to mention all the western talent they have also hired to work on their products.

It’s not just the cars, it’s also the autonomy side of things also:

TLDW: the Xpeng Chinese self driving system is better than what Tesla is offering in the US and China.

The cars handling of hordes of scooters (including many traveling the wrong way down a one way street) and pedestrians is nothing but impressive even if it not a fully hands off system yet.

Put money down on a certified used LR model y.
Tesla warranty til Nov 27, 15k miles. Potentially looking out for a worn tyre and ball joint.
Them asking for full payment before seeing the car is kind of weird but at least it's fully covered by DSR then if there's an issue.

Just got a Tesla Model 3. Going from a BMW 320i M sport Touring.
First impressions is it's nice to drive, but it's not nearly as comfy as the BMW. The seats seem very thin and just can't get them positioned right. I'm too young to take a cushion into my car but I'm considering it!
Lack of Android Auto/Car Play is annoying due to no WhatsApp integration. But I do like the built in Spotify. Grok is also very good!
I don't have a charger at home so been using superchargers and they've been great. Very fast, and always available.
I am finding I'm driving a lot faster than I used to be, it's just too easy to drift upwards. Can't get on with auto steer. The steering part is fine, but the overtaking takes forever! Also, why is there no speed limiter?!
Also, not being able to manually (or electronically) tint the roof is daft.
The stereo is very good.
The nav is fantastic, precondition for battery charge and being able to set the charge desired when arriving so it plans stops to charge is invaluable for me.
But it's nice to drive, and happy with it.
