EV general discussion

So, my wife's car is turning into a pain in the arse, she has a MK1 Peugeot 3008 1.6 HDi, it's a bag of issues & I know I shouldn't have bought French but when it's working it's a nice enough run about.

In the last few weeks we've started to have DPF issues & noticed the AC has packed in (It packed in last year & a local place replaced part of the loom for £80 & it started working again). I went under it earlier & it looks like the Eolysis tank has **** itself & deposited it's contents all-over the underside of the car & & it seems to eat ball joints for fun.

Given she chucks £120 - £150 in the thing fuel wise i'm noticing some stuff online saying we can lease a brand new Vauxhall Frontera EV for about the same as what the 3008 costs in Diesel, we have a solar array & a battery at home so this seems too good to be true, any thoughts?

I had a 3008 before also. Great when it worked. But like yours mine had similar issues and eventually Stellantis did not want to know and got out of honouring warranty by saying it has had aftermarket work done to the wiring. Oh, that's strange considering i never took to anywhere else but my Peugeot Stellantis garage.

I went EV and been much happies (so far). Never again a Stellantis vehicle. Sick what they get away with.

The car turned up Friday, late afternoon. Even though the dealer is in Southampton, the car had been collected from somewhere near Grimsby - I assume they were taken to a central place to have this safety recall issue cleared. It was fairly dirty, and I discovered a very small scratch - So not the best start!

Not only that, but I point out a scratch and the delivery driver appeared to take a picture of it, then got me to sign for it - When my delivery form came through about 20 mins later he had marked that the car was damage free and gave himself 10/10 for delivery. I signed it thinking he had reported the damage, and he had not! I immediately called my dealer and reported it - Hopefully the fact I have pictures taken within a few minutes of delivery is enough to prove it wasn't me.

But that's the negative part out of the way.

I've driven over 100 miles in the last 30 hours, mainly on B roads with a small amount of A roads and I'm really pleased with how it actually drives. It handles so much better than my Genesis GV70 and really feels planted to the road. Any concerns I had about how comfortable it would be on steel sprung suspension vs my car with adaptive dampers has been put to rest. It's slightly firmer, but not uncomfortably so and I'll take that over the floaty barge feeling I have from the GV70.

I am on the 20" wheels and the car came with Hankook Ion Evo tyres which seem grippy and don't make too much road noise.

Yesterday I used the car with the physical key, but today I used it with just my phone as the digital key and found that worked flawlessly. The one software bug I encountered was that I couldn't get the voice assistant to work at all yesterday, but it seems to have updated some apps after I enabled the BMW digital premium trial and was working today.

I got the tech pack, so I do have both the HUD and Harmon Kardon audio.

I've been using the HUD and not really looking at the Panoramic display. It does seem like there is a very specific sweet spot to view it from before it starts distorting and I did have to add some rotation to mine and move it higher up. I don't think it looks as crisp at the HUD in my GV70 but there's not a lot in it, and I think it's because BMW use such large fonts. If they scaled those back slightly it might look a bit better. Anyway, I think I'll stick with the HUD on, as I do like the navigation directions in the HUD from the BMW sat nav, and even better - It gives turn by turn directions in the HUD if you want to use Android auto instead to navigate.

As for the HK system, i'm no audio purist (I have tinnitus) but I was blasting song songs over bluetooth and even with the sound degradation you get using Bluetooth it sounded pretty good to me. My car doesn't seem to have Spotify though - I know they seem to be promoting Amazon music but I'm sure the BMW assistant told me I could request songs on Spotify and then when I did that it said the app wasn't available so I find that a bit strange.

It also comes with the 3 zone climate control, but the rear always seems set to 22.5°C when I open the back doors, and I'm not sure how to change that from the front of the car.

What else to say? The 'Iconic glow' matrix headlights seemed very good and powerful when I was driving back in the dark yesterday, so i'm happy there as well.

Oh and the Adaptive regen mode seems really good. Reviewers were saying it didn't come to a complete stop but it certainly does in traffic. I've not tested it with a clear road ahead so that might change things. I haven't really tried the 'B' mode with one pedal driving as the adaptive regen seems so good.

I think on the new OS you have to install Spotify etc

So last week I took the plunge, spec’d, placed my deposit and had my order confirmed for this.

VW ID Buzz GTX, handover penned in for late September which will make it a MY27 and have the mid-cycle updates of which include V2L, full one pedal, updated screen/infotainment system and most importantly physical steering wheel buttons instead of the current Haptic Touch things that make it far to easy to accidentally switch on or change something you didn’t want to.

So we went & test drove a Frontera following my previous post & it's not that bad a motor in my opinion, sure the performance is relatively garbage but the idea here is to have a reliable car that's safe, Comfortable, not constantly breaking and has a boot big enough for our rapidly growing Cane Corso cross.

We normally buy used cars so this is all new to me, I currently have a Jaguar XE & A Mondeo ST220 myself so the performance of this thing is largely irrelevant, it just needs to be trouble free.

It's occurred to us over the weekend that my wife being a director & primary shareholder of a VAT registered limited company can probably put a lease through the company & deduct it from what she pays herself as a salary so there may well be tax benefits & a cost reduction, need to have a chat with the accountant on Tuesday.

They are fine, its a vehicle from getting A to B with a decent size boot/rear passenger space and very analogue controls. If you can still find the Ultimate spec for the same sort of price, £165ish a month on a 1+23 or 1+35, then it's hard to argue with and finding better value will be hard.

My Wife has the Corsa electric and it’s been great. Does exactly what it says on the tin and is comfortable and easy to drive. Not had a look at the Frontera but imagine it’s similar setup.

I love everything about them apart from the price. I'd love one but being old I couldn't get past buying a 3 bed house in the centre of Cambridge in 1996 for 20k less than that. Very jealous.

Yeah, i'm looking at the ultimate as I love the fact my Diesel Jag XE can do pre-heating in winter & cooling in summer, i'm hoping the Vauxhall can do the same as I don't use the Jaguar for the school run (Short Journeys, DPF Bad!) but the heated glass which I believe the ultimate has makes so much difference in a morning & it's me who does the school run 2 days a week.

The Corsa does through the My Vauxhall app so would have thought the Frontera would too. I think you only get 6 months free before you have to pay though ours has run out and I refuse to pay to use features.
