Thunderstorms 2026

We're seeing lightning of the storms down on the south coast (we're just south of Swindon), mad to be able to see such constant lightning but without thunder. Interestingly enough we escaped south Wales earlier today just before the storms hit!

Must have been a pretty sizeable thunderstorm mid-south / south coast - I was lying in bed around midnight / early hours of the night and could constantly see the light from lightning a long way off to the east of me (I was near Wincanton) rippling on the walls/ceiling around the window and occasionally rolls of thunder.

The threat of rain has subsided here as it looks like the lightning activity over last night was to the west of us.. so the build for a big storm is still going on. Going to be a hot day again but with some haze I feel.

As posted in the Too Hot thread, easily the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard. Looks like a lot of the lightning strikes were just west of Gloucester and a bit more west. Had to get up again to close some windows as it got a bit blowy too.

Its just hitting us up North but there's something about thunderstorms not being the same when its light out.

Had one at 0100, multiple quick flashes but little thunder. Then it sounded like the world was ending, never seen hail so large here at least.

Mental last night in the west midlands. Thought a nuclear bomb had detonated. Seems to have fried my router as well. Lightning surge down the cable?

Ah man that takes me back to Johannesburg thunderstorms; we had to run around unplugging the landline phones...
I take it you're not on FTTP?

We had a proper downpour last night and some new rain now with distant rumbles of thunder. I'm West of York.

How are you seeing the south coast from Swindon?
No idea but there wasn't much else going on, aside from small amount in Salisbury according to lightning map. We were looking slightly more east and it was way more activity than what was supposedly going on Salisbury way. Absolutely no sound whatsoever so must've been a heck of a distance.

We had it here in north shropshire - just been out side and all the water butt's are full -Happened just in time.
