EV general discussion

Picked it up today, very pleased. It handles and drives so much better than the iX and seat comfort is much improved.

The acceleration in this thing is really strong. I think BMW have it 0-62 in 3.8 but many have timed it at 3.3.

Makes my Z4 look like a tiny baby car.
"Really strong" seems like an understatement.

Even 10 years ago that was supercar territory.

What are the general thoughts on Polestars? Im aware they are made in China but wondered about quality, reliability, maintenance costs etc. Just pondering about when Im ready to move on from the M8 Comp, Im liking the Polestar 5 as its replacement

Polestar make very good quality cars.

The polestar 5 is brand new so no one’s going to be able to comment on reliability but generally everything else they have put out has been solid.

Sorry I didnt mean the reliability of the Polestar 5, as deliveries are due in Nov(?) so is unknown. I meant more about Polestar reliability across their range in general ie. do they cheap out in certain areas so they have common faults etc.

Polestar 3/4 had some bad tech stories with faults/crashes in the software and things like keycards not working but not sure if they have been sorted now

Thanks, these are the sort of things that would put me off if they are a hassle / annoying as you just want these things to just work.

Might be an idea to check out the Polestar forums to see if there any current issues. Of course people are much more likely to post with a complaint than praise so bear that in mind.

Yeah, the i5 m60 is great, we have one as a company car in work, which I borrow quite often.. although ironically it’s looking to get replaced with an iX M70 as the owner likes the air suspension, quilted seats and that it comes highly spec’d as standard with barely any options.. They got offered such good lease rates I was asked if I fancied a company car as they could get a better deal on 2 x iX M70’s which are seemingly being fire-saled.. I don’t know if I want to pay the BIK , but the car would be free otherwise..

The only complaints with the i5 m60 are mainly they wished they had the estate, and the range/efficiency are not at all good, but you don’t buy this kind of thing for range, otherwise it’s as you describe, very refined..

I think the iX would be so much better with the air suspension and the facelift seats.

The range is fine for me, I'd never do more than 250 miles in a single day. Most I do is 100 round trip once a week.

Yea it's interesting, I've watched multiple reviews hit 3.3 with their timing gear. BMW do like to under play their numbers for sure. Either way it's rocket ship territory.

I've only got the AWD Model 3 so that is a lowly 4.2 but I find the mad part isn't how fast it goes, it's how easily you're able to go that quickly with it feeling pedestrian as you sip on your morning coffee.

I think you'd be mental not to if an EV would work for you, it'll be what, £4-5k reduction in your personal allowance and you get a £115k car in return? Unless you've got something else funky going on with your taxes or you stand to lose a very substantial car allowance payment you'll be paying about £150 a month, that's absolutely dirt cheap.

Having driven the 6N weighing in at 2100kg and achieving 0-62mph in 3.2s (sub 3s no doubt 0-60) so faster than all above, I know one thing for sure, I'd take bloody any of those over 6N as the 6N does not even compare or come close and the 6N is engineered as a track focused EV, most EV's drive a damn site worse.

F40 - Absolute death trap but I'd wager from the above it is the biggest adrenalin rush going, from been a passenger many moons ago, still remember it.
Enzo - Just look at it
570s - Drive circles around most EV's its typically around 1 tonne lighter
F1 - How dare you even compare it to an EV. :D

Weird conversation again. Even my wife would do that based on the value to sell after!

its the taper of power thats where EV wont match.

Comparing in this context continues to be daft. A poster made a simple factually correct statement and now we are all getting carried away.

I shortlisted a Polestar 3 for our next lease - but they're really expensive on lease. Especially for a Chinese car.

I find it crazy that my KIA does 0-60 as fast as an F1. 10 years ago you would be lucky if a KIA didn’t self destruct trying to get to 60. It’s amazing how now 0-60 under 4 seconds is achievable in relative ease if a bit stale in comparison to ice cars doing the same.
