Im buying a new car and have the choice of leather or cloth seats. Although leather seems more appealing, i'm a bit cautious because in summer i tend to sweat and stick to leather seats which can get uncomfortable. Any preference people ?

you can also have part leather (from some panufacturers, depending on the car youre buying) and have the best of both worlds.

if youre thinking long term, a car with leather will have a greater resale value too

I prefer Leather over cloth as long as you have aircon too

though IMO Alcantara beats them both by a mile , hard wearing , easy to clean , looks good and no sweaty arse :p

Leather/alcentara is the nicest as you don't get the whole leather summer problem and the alcentara wears very well. Otherwise Leather over cloth anytime. Just remember to feed/treat the leather regularly to stop it cracking

I must be the odd one out I prefer cloth. I drive two cars so switch between them quite often and i find that:

In the winter they're too cold and the heated part takes too long to warm up (when you're shivvering any amount of time is too long :p ).
In the summer your back gets hot and sweaty. Although I've never tried an air conditioned leather seat sounds interesting... But again I can't see it kicking in instantly so then you're left with a sweaty cold back.

Cloth is never too cold or too hot I find.

No it's not.

Having had leather seats for a few months, I find cloth seats oddly clingy. 'Italian' leather is rubbish though, cracks and wears far too easily. 'German' leather is fantastically hard wearing, but doesn't smell as nice

Leather is great. It's freezing in Winter and scorching hot in Summer. Practicality wise they suck. Black leather steering wheels, now that's also a great idea isn't it? You need asbestos lined gloves to drive when it's a hot Summer day!

Why on earth people want it is beyond me

I guess it's a prestige thing "oooh look, I must be posh with my leather seats in my Ford/Vauxhall/*" ;)

* insert other average manufacturer of choice here.

Now alcantara, that's more like it. Looks good, feels good, fairly practical and costs lots so you can impress fellow car nuts.

Depends. Loved the leather in my old barge, but that had aircon.
Don't think I'd like to have it in my MX with the probability of burning myself to it with the roof down.

that's the downside, my front seats are Alcantara but the rears are in cloth , obviously a cost cutting measure by Subaru

Leather :) New car has leather interior, very comfy.

Some leather seems to wear very quickly and soon looks shabby mind, but that's down to car.
