hehe, dunno!

When I was testing its limits, 3.4v was the sweet spot, so I just left it there.

I do like my voltage...

(Powerstream PSU with tweakable rails, volt-modded X850XT, semi 5v jumper mod to DFI)
 
Nex, its interesting that we both have the same steppings and HSF and get the same temps, did you change the thermal paste of use the supplied stuff?

I'm trying to sort the case cooling but the wavemaster isnt great at getting air in. So far I've swapped the rear 80mm fan for a 120mm fan and enlarged the air intake holes on the front of the case. Next step I think is to put a 120mm fan on the side of the case to get some air in and over the main board. Once this is done I'll get back to a little more overclocking.

Mine was stable last night at 2.9Ghz on 1.4v, I've had it prime for an hour at 2950Mhz so I think there is still more left to come, but only if I can get some air in this case.

Hey sepulchre, its great to here your putting that setup through its paces :)

Gotta love the DFI Nforce4 Series, and your 146 is the same stepping as mine, which mine is currently doing 3.0Ghz with 1.55v.

Things do seem to get a tad hot at these temperatures but I have a feeling my Opterons IHS is making poor contact with the die underneath. So it will be coming off.

I would say if you have some decent air cooling then 1.55 should not be a problem. Im mainly a fan of the Scythe Ninja and the Thermaltake Big Typhoon (of which I own).

The problem with the Big Typhoon is it has a poor base, but I have ordered a good lapping kit to sort this out.
 
Up until a couple of days ago i was using the stuff that came with the freezer and temps were around 40c idle / 50c load, ive put some as5 on recently and seen the slight drop in temps but it has been frickin freezin recently so that may have something to do with it aswell.

Looks like u've got a good chance to hit 3ghz with more v's, git... :p Good luck!

I'm usin a super lanboy with 120mm akasa ambers front at rear at full pelt btw :cool: how warm is the room your pc's in just out of interest?
 
I have to admit that my case temperatures were not as good as they used to be.

I've found that going from a CM201 with 4* 80mm fans (2 intake, 2 exhaust) to a Lian Li PC7SE with 2* 120mm fans (1 intake, 1 exhaust). My system temperatures are a lot higher but the system is much more quiet. :)

Looking around for some Nexus fans as I think these will help that situation and I may install the 80mm exhaust fan at the top of the case.
 
Can I jump in here and ask something pls and sorry for the hi-jack.

Basically my Opty 144 is sitting semi-stable at 2400 mhz (down from 2500) on an A8N-E with 500W Enermax Liberty, nowmy ram is on the 133mhz (DDR266) divider but running at around 170'ish FSB well below DDR400 - now what I am wondering with people relaxing the timings is I am running the RAM at Cas 2 // 6 / 3 / 3 / 1T @ 2.80V would lowering the timings help me increase the Opteron core speed? Also max async timingg is at 7.0ns, should I increase this to 8 or 9ns?

Volt's are at 1.55, and temps get up to about 48C under load which I find acceptable. Also, I might need to find a modded A8N-E bios to hopefully let me change LDT voltages, as it is all I can change is the CPU and RAM

possibly. If your running the prime blend which stresses the ram quite a bit, theres a possibility the ram could cause it to fail. i assume you mean the timings are 2-3-3-6? Whats the ram's stock timings?

Will lowering the timings on the ram help with overclocking the CPU (mem controller?) my ram is stable at these speeds, but it's the CPU that drops out as I push the HTT higher.

yeah sorry the timings are 2-3-3-6 stock for some reason is 3-3-3-8
 
My corsair defaulted to 3-3-3-8 even though its true rating was 2-3-3-6. I've relaxed it to 2-3-3-8 just to get through SuperPi. But this cpu seems to run a little faster as each day goes by and also seems to do it a little cooler so I'll try again at the tighter timings, but not until i've maxed out the opty.

Mekrel - I'm having a great time with it now, after the initial hicups at christmas (none of which were the boards fault - damn twinmoss) it been brilliant! Takes a while to get to grips with the bios and its all a bit worrying at first (the will it go boom concerns etc) but I now I'm happily changing settings and enjoying the effects. Kind of adictive though :D
 
Thought I would post back as I've got my case cooling working a little better and I'm now at 3Ghz stable at 1.45v :D
