Will scour scoobynet as well later on, but wanted to gauge peoples opinions on scooby wagons.
im looking at a couple tomorrow (neither i want to buy, however they are local. Im wanting to look at one in Bath but need to test a couple a bit more local before i make the journey down for a specific car!).

Anything that i should look out for? Both are under 60k miles and both are over 10 years old automatics.

Much more practical than my BMW, as much as i would prefer a 3 series touring, there are none worth buying in my price range (E46).

Opinions and what to look out for please people :D

My Opinion about them are they just look like a Sedan that they have decided to tack a longer roof onto and ad a window where there wasnt anything before.

They look like they wernt really thnking how to do it when they designed them IMO :(

afternoon matey.
I like scoob wagons.with the STi body bits and wheels they look pretty aggressive IMHO.
unless I'm mistaken the wagon is always 20 bhp down on the saloon variant of the age you're considering.
a mate of mine bought a '95 wagon with 96k on the clock four years ago and 48 months+an extra 60k miles later it's given him no horror stories at all.
just to throw in a random for you, try looking at the Galant estate too.
fast, competant, inexpensive and a bit more exclusive than the Scoob.

mind if I ask what your budget is mate and if anything else springs to mind i'll post back.

er tha'ts because they are :)

They are the same length etc as the saloon, they are not esates! Technically they are hatches :P

Yes, thats generally what happens with a hatch/estate version of a saloon

Yeah I have a friend with a JDM Galant estate GT. 280bhp Twin Turbo I think but automatic. Still a lovely car and I think they have a higher spec that the UK imprezzas.

tbh i think the scoob wagons are pointless, they offer very little extra space over a normal impreza

think of it more as an Impreza hatch, than an estate

if you want something with more room, may i suggest the legacy turbo estate

OnewGTBpic.jpg

(240bhp but Jap import only :( )

and the Forrester 2.5 Turbo XT (227bhp and uk model :D)

forrester.jpg

which with bit of cosmetic tuning looks like this

and can be as easily tuned as the impreza can.

that ^^^ is THE Sex

Thats just exactly what it is though.

the fact the OP was comparing them to a 3 series touring though

implies he maybe hasnt realised just how little difference there is between the normal and "wagon"

some people think of them as estates, but they're not

if the OP knows this, then fine :)

isn't the JDM Forrester called the gravel express?

Gravel Express is an Impreza Wagon with higher ride height, a spare wheel on the back and a few cosmetic bits to make it look more of an off roader.

Main advantage is the size of the hatch opening. The Saloon opening isn't exactly huge.

Any reason your looking at Autos Morba? Or is that just whats available? Auto Imprezas make baby jesus cry :(

firstly i wasnt comparing the 2 at all :p
mentioning another car does not mean im comparing them :p

i know what a wagon is, its not a saloon yet offers a lot more accessible space than a standard scooby, accessible being the operative word here for what i want.
3 series tourings arent much different in size compared to a saloon either you know :p

TDS, galants are good options, there arent any vr4 estates local that i can see tho :/
galants are great in looks due to the aggressive front.
twin turbos arent they? something like 300bhp?

Ive got about 5k to spend (trade only due to needing to trade my car in, expecting around £2500 for it).

sport imprezas make baby jesus cry :p
auto due to the fact the wife will be using it occasionally, also im not bothered about driving autos, im not buyin the car to race around the twisties 90% of my driving time :p
i do a 20 mile trip to work daily that regularly means being sat in traffic and also drive back to bristol often (110 mile - m23 / m25 / m4), auto comes in handy here :p

there are 8 "shark noses" on autotrader right now, four of them auto/tiptronics.

btw can your other half ( who, i'm assuming has an auto-only license ) drive a tiptronic or are you only allowed to drive a full auto?

try searching on auto trader for "Legnum" mate.
surely there must be ONE somewhere near you?

yeah trips and also SMG are allowed on auto license, which is a bonus :D
tho im quite a way from owning a M3 just yet hehe

found this, year newer than my 'loon but same engine and sport pack. think i would prefer the half leather as well. just a touch pricey for my liking, but will go see it none the less :]

the scooby is now out of the question, got to one yet the wife was adamant that she would not let me buy one describing it as very ugly and would be ashamed to have it outside the house lol.
shes not a fan of the galants either, end of the day i will be driving it most of the time :]

for the love of god, it breaks my heart to see a nice guy that still lusts after a recycled messerschmidt.
