I saw this in Cinema's when it was out. I thought it was a fantastic movie. But I saw it again on DVD today, and must say, it's more than fantastic. It's underrated! Hugo Weaving (spoiler) does a great job playing V.

a lot of people say the fact that they didn't show V, made it a bad movie. I disagree. If this was a Speilberg movie, or a Coppala or Jackson movie what would have happned was Evey would have taken the mask off, kissed him on his lips, put the mask back on, and sent him on his merry fireworks display.
But that didn't happen at all! I love the movie because it's not cliche! It's absolutely genious!

Anyone else agree/disagree?

I thought it was an excellent film I have to admit, but everyone I've spoken to thinks its poor or average at best. strange.

Exacttly mate. I thought it was opposite to some of the comments recieved. I thought it was a bloody brilliant film. I thought it was very clever. And to be honest, it had me on the edge of my seat!

Was the first HD-DVD I brought really great film (good HD DVD as well). Nice to see a film based in Britain which wasnt all cor blimey cockneys or upper class toffs like most Hollywood films stereotype us as!

Dunno why most people think it wasn't very well liked it's 115th in the imdb all time top 250 films!

I've only seen it once but I didn't think it was especially good to be honest :o I'm a big fan of the Wachowski Brothers, purely for gifting us with the superb Matrix trilogy, so I expected more from this film seeing as they wrote the screenplay and produced it.

The irony wasn't lost on me by casting John Hurt as a Big Brother type figure, and the fight scene in the underground towards the end of the film was very good, it was the rest of the film I struggled with. Seemed odd as well when V spoke and not seeing any lip movement. I know, that'd be hard to do as he wore a mask for the whole of the film, but it was still odd.

I'll have to watch it again, see whether my first impression was wrong.

Saw this the other day for the first time and what an amazing film.

The concept was brilliant, the undertones for the direction of modern society and the purpose of V was quasi genius.

also one of my fav films of all time, lent it to someone else atm though and knowing my luck i wont ever get it back

they certainly wont be getting anything else of mine...

I thought it was the best superhero film i've ever seen. I really like how V was portrayed and a lot of the imagery was very well done.

Just because a film's subject matter is all political and about oppression and stuff doesn't mean when you can understand you can be like "yeah, that film is so not clever"

Despite the tripe that was the Matrix Trilogy, I gave V a shot in the cinema. Good film. Very good.

Goes to show that just because they made the Matrix films, it doesn't mean that they're terrible directors...

what was wrong with the matrix? i found them to be highly enjoyable

i can't imagine it's a particularly original idea, there are hundreds of sci fi films that have some oppressive government (that was basically what V for Vendetta was about wasn't it?)

I mean heck, last week's Running Man has the basic idea of some government feeding lies to its citizens
