Well, my Dad might be up for murder!

I'm assuming that if guns are allowed in SA, they are supposed to be for self defence. Hence he was using it for it's intended purpose. I can understand the reasoning behind guns being illegal, but if they are legal then it would be ridiculous to make it illegal to use them to defend your home.

You're allowed to own a gun here, as long as it's licenced and not worn/seen in public.

Where they trying to harm your family? was there any signs that they might of. What did they do last time they broke in? If they was there to steal your TV.. Death is abit harsh tbh.

Death isn't harsh at all. If they break into my house they are there for two reasons; to steal stuff and to harm anyone getting in their way. For this, they got shot. End of.

Were they armed? If so with what? If nothing but "Close Quarters" weapons, then shoot both thier legs/knees and save the weight on your mind of having killed someone, surely?

No weight on my mind or my Dad's mind. I firmly believe if they are there to break in and harm family members, they get shot. That's it. Yes, they were armed with pistols. But they didnt get time to use them, thankfuly.

 just because they break into the house doesn't automatically mean there going to try and hurt you. I shouted down the stairs and came running down and they ran off. they took a few things but thats what insurance is for + get newer better things. I then upgraded the security and sorted. I certainly wouldn't kill them.

EDIT - read they had pistols does make it a acceptable self defence.

They could still hurt him if they were only shot in the knee. Shooting them in the chest\head eliminates the threat quickly. Unfortunately they forfeit their safety by breaking in and sneaking around.

This is SA we're talking about remember, not some peaceful English village..

Then it would be 2 stories v 1 im sure they would make up a believable story, easier to send em both to hell :p

Take all the time you want fella, your obviously going to need it arent you??.

More importantly than thinking about the ****heads who tried robbing you, how is you father doing? hope he's not too upset about what happened.

In Ireland if the intruder tries to approach you or the room you're in your allowed to defend yourself using necessary means. If on the other hand they make no move to approach you or attack you then you can't touch them.

In a two story house, if they go upstairs then you can defend yourself. If they stay downstairs while you're in your bedroom then you can't do anything.

Can't you say you were asleep on the sofa, and they lunged at you?

Dead men tell no tales.
