Well, my Dad might be up for murder!

Couple of things which instantly spring to my mind without reading the whole thread:

Firstly, they tried to break into the place 8 times? If you first you don't succeed.... don't try 8 times.

Secondly, in SA don't they have the Anit Car Hijacking, where the car shoots flames from underneath the car, burning the legs and body of the hijacker on the outside? If so, I think your dad will be fine.

amazingly people don't carry weapons to look pretty, if anyone is carrying any weapon it is because they have thought about using it in a situation that could occur.
If there only plan was to steal a tv why would they need the guns? they wouldn't, simple the plan was steal stuff/ attack anyone who tries to stop us stealing or worse case just kill the family for the sake of it.

This guys dad made the right call.
as for shooting them in the leg disarming them etc, sorry most people are not Steven Seagal.

I dont think you know how you would react in the actual circumstance until you have it thrust upon you.
Its very well saying I would shoot them in the leg but you could just as easily kill them that way, bleeding out through a major artery or shattered bone into a vital organ of some sort, especially in the dead of night when you might not see them clearly or they are moving about and miss the target you where aiming for.

Good on him I say, and I hope it all goes well and that common sense is served.

I always hear this one, lol.

No. That was one guy in Joburg who converted his BMW to do this. However it was taken away from him by the police.

Gutted :( but I bet nothing happened to him no? In that case, if he was ABLe and was WILLING to burn people and then didn't recieve charges, then I don't see how yur dad can be charged?

You've seen way too many films! This is real life! Quite frankly if you pull a gun on a pair of armed thugs in your house then you shoot to kill, not injure! Plus, people shot in the legs can still return fire!

Hope it works out for OP's Dad, should be given a medal tbh!

I think something did as he was intending to hurt when he had not been threatend, not 100% sure though.

From what ive heard about SA, 2 blacks breaking into my property, both with guns!!! is a case of Iver me or them. Im sure they would have had no hesitation to use their guns.

If they were white tho, it could be a diffrent story.
 
Having spent a large part of my life in SA, knowing just how different breaking and entering in SA is compared to the same offence in the UK, I fully support your father's actions and hope it turns out well for him. Some of the posts in this thread beggar belief, but that's the beauty of the internet, I s'pose.

Nope. If they were white, they would've still got shot. Their colour is irrelevent.
 
A South African white guy works at my place and he reckons he's killed loads of people on his farm. If you saw a rustle in the bushes you would shoot first and ask questions later. He also used to be a train driver and his orders were to not stop and plow the natives down if they got in the way.

Well done to your dad IMO. Really hope it gets out of it. :) :)

I find it totally ******* shocking that someone breaking and entering has rights, the SECOND they have broken the law, thats it, no rights what so ever. :mad:

The justice in the UK in cases like this is appalling, im 100% behind that guy who went to jail from defending his property and family. :mad:

Too many ******* out there :rolleyes:
