Bought the 4gig kit.
Can only get them to 815mhz and timings to 5-5-5-12.
Apparently the black dragon kits are built for stability not for overclocking.
As for no heatspreader it's no big deal..GeIL use a 8 layer pcb in these so they're not hot to the touch. Can get hot though when overclocking.
Was using these on the Asus P5N32-E SLI which is not the greatest for overclocking even though it has the 680i chipset.
I'm still messing around with the timings and voltage so will post back on how I do.
At first boot they were running at timings of 6-6-6-18 and a Vista base score of 5.2
Setting the timings to 5-5-5-12 results in a base score of 5.6 without overclocking the frequency.
Theese have gone up in price. The 8500 was £99 originally. Prices seem to be getting higher and higher on over clockers. Now when i look around i often find things cheaper. Like motherboards which are 20 quid cheaper on other sites. IVe not checked other sites for the ram in question, but im sure its not the cheapest.
I have got to say I bought 4GB of GeIL Black Dragon (2x2GB PC6400C5) the other week and it really makes a difference for when your in Vista64. Games like BF2 play smoother than ever, and the OS seems more slick. Im quite impressed with the difference another 2gig makes.
People keep saying buy now this is the lowest prices every. But surely they will go up a bit then even lower again. its just the general pattern i thought. So why not wait?
No, not "people", that was me saying it. In my other thread. That you posted in.
I know that memory prices keep rising and falling, but what I've noticed is that if there's a serious shortage they tend to take A LONG TIME to fall again, far longer than it takes them to rise when there's oversupply! Summer being tsunami season in S.E. Asia where a lot of the mem companies have fabs, I thought that by postponing my purchase till September I'm pushing my luck. (Plus I'm not risking losing money if they go down cause I'll just get a refund through Visa.)
Of course my saying all this in a forum of this size might prompt EVERYONE to buy and cause a run on the memory market, thereby turning my prediction that prices will rise into a self-fulfilling prophesy.
I'd watch me if I were you. I could be a dabbler in insider-trading! Or prophesy. Or godhood.
Lol clever tactics So really i should buy a webpage and make it look professional and post a report on how the G80s have been known to blow up.They all get refunds and the price goes down!
I serpose youll be saying buy yhe DDR3 its at its lowest price ever!
