I got my bike out of the garage today and set off like normal... I could hear a rattling, and a few hundred feet up the road noticed my petrol tank was moving... and unbolted!

Turned round, took it home, and got a lift to work off my mum, totally fuming. I've only had the bike less than a week and my initial thought was that it had come loose and fallen out, which pretty much freaked me out as the night before, I rode home from Lakeside to Southend, at high speed, with my fiance on the back, and the thought of having done that with my petrol tank not properly attached is a bit :/

But after speaking to the dealer it seems that that's how you go about stealing a Fazer (or most Yams), and the only reason I've still got a bike is because it's got a Meta alarm, which relocates the junction box, and presumably went off and scared the ****s off.

Argh! So angry! My frame's scratched too from where the bracket has rubbed on it too.

*fumes*

I hope they die.

From one of the covered car parks at Lakeside while I was buying my Wii :(

Damn, did you not check your alarm light when getting back to the bike? or is that just paranoid old me that checks it all the time lol :p

I've never had an alarm before, what do you mean check the light? Would it be flashing if the alarm had gone off then?

Ah kk yea if its gone off i will be flashing quicker than the usual flash pause, flash pause, although if you disarm the alarm before you get to the bike the light goes off so you would not know either way :/

Ah, reducing your carbon footprint i see ;) . Jokes aside, youve got to hate it when you go for a Wii and someone tries to steal your bike. No seriously, jokes aside now, at least youve still got your bike and a bit of TLC should have it back to where you want it again soon? Its a shame there are people out there that ruin it for others.

My Meta alarm also beeps and flashes the indicators at me more times than normal when I'm disarming it if it's been set of at all. I don't know if that's standard, but I image it is.

Ah possibly, never really checked the indicator flashes, might test it tonight, will be usefull to know :p ty

Hey, at least they didn't try to crow bar the steering lock and rip half the wires out of the ECU.

A couple of light scratches and a few bolts to tighten sounds like you got lucky.

Do you use a disk lock or anything like that?

I ordinarily use a chain, I actually didn't last night, come to think of it, I left it under the seat :/

imo though chains are only a mild deterrent, a pair of bolt croppers will go through 99% of chains in well under a minute.

yes but people walking around with bolt croppers stick out more, and a chain is a better deterrent than none at all.

i always used a chain and if you park next to a bike without a chain then guess which one is more likely to get lifted. ;)

Certainly, I wasn't defending my not using it, I just forgot :D

When i had a bike at college i use to bolt it to metal railings next to 5 other bikes who didnt bother. One day we all went to go home and my bike was the only one left standing there.

Heh i only use steering lock and alarm at work, its right behind our building and only way into it is via a little road beside out building, and someone would hear the alarm if it went off, or am i putting to much faith in the security of winchester lol

I have a ground anchor and chain at home, but when I'm out and about I only use the disk lock.

Sometimes. Mostly I'll use the chain though, I don't really save any space by only using a disk lock so I don't tend to.

Either way I don't think my security's at fault here seeing as the bike's still in my possession because of the alarm :p
