Been living it up as a named driver on my mothers policy... i know i know, best to start getting those NCB's as soon as you pass but i couldnt say no to a £1000 saving, especially when i was in college and only earning part time... but im nearly 21 and its about time i looked at getting a policy in my own name and building afew years or NCB up

I'm already looking at getting something slightly more powerful than my 1.6 mk3 golf (which isnt very difficult, how they only got 75bhp from a 1.6 i dont know :p)

cheapest i've come back with is £770 for the year, so what did you all pay for your first years motoring in your own name?

/me waits for some insane 4 digit figures

Just under600 for a .9 chinquecento. After the first year you can knock at least a 3rd of the price of.

770 for a golf is good going.

Last year I paid around £1070 for my 1977 Mg Midget 1500 at 18 with 0 NCB and one accident within the previous year- the policy was third party fire and theft and I limited the mileage to around 1-2K as I don't tend to use it much while at uni.

£2400 on my 1.4 Escort which I changed after 9 months and paid £3400 (or was it £3200) for TPFT on my Passat TDi.

The joys of being a young driver in Northern Ireland :(

I have just got my renewal through. 22, 3 years NCB, CD10 4 points, one non fault accident - £1050 on my Toledo 1.8T.
:(

I was on mum's insurance policy until I was 21, too.

Worst thing I ever did in my driving career, but isn't hindsight a wonderful thing!

As I knew I'd be paying loads for insurance anyway, I decided to go all-out and get an upgrade to my previous car anyway!

So, I bought a 1996 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC! Cost me £1050 for 10 months cover, TPFT, from Admiral.

A couple of weeks before my 21st birthday, I priced it up at about £1300 for the same cover!

£1550 at 21 with 0NCB on group 15 GTi6.

£800 at 22 with 1 NCB.

Now down to £650 at 23 with 2 NCB.

Will have 3 years NCB and be 24 come the end of Sept.

When 17, 1800 quid on a '78 Triumph Dolomite 1850HL, with nonstandard alloys.......TPFT......Dropped to 550 next year with one year's NCB.

In fact, my insurance has been 550 for pretty much every single car since then, including the current one. Insurance, eh?!
