I've always liked the Coldplay one. "Rush of Blood to the Head" I think it's called. Dark side of the Moon is a classic.

Actually The Prodigy, Fat of the Land gets my vote.

I encourage posting pictures as I can see the album art you've suggested.
If posting pictures please keep to 250x250 to keep page load time down. One picture per post please.

Great covers posted so far. I'm a big fan of album artwork, and record package design in general. I think a well-designed release adds so much more to the whole experience of the record, and it's something downloads can never be able to match. Mmm.... so many to choose from, I'll go with the first 5 that come to mind.

  • Ironically, one of my all-time favourites is TNT by Tortoise, which is styled to look like a CDR:

  • Anything done by Iker Spozio - his illustrations are stunning. Notably his covers for records by Colleen:

  • Joanna Newsom's Ys is amazing on the full gatefold vinyl edition; stocked full of symbols and references to the record:

Plus I like the fact it's got irregular dimensions, so gets mangled in a variety of ways by the thumbnail generators on online shops).

  • Any of the main releases by Sigur Ros. They're always beautifully packaged, and well thought out - the carded 'book' edition of Takk in particular. Seriously tempted by the 7-piece vinyl-set/photo-book they've released on Artist in Residence.

Ooo, and the late-60s records by Miles Davis (Bitches Brew, On the Corner, Big Fun etc.), Eno's Ambient * series (On Land, ... for Airports, Plateaux of Mirror etc.) and so on and so on...

I think we should post our favourite package-design as well - the cover's not all there is to it!

I dare someone to post the original cover of the Scorpion's Virgin Killer.
Heh. Seriously though, what were they thinking?!

On a related - though more artistic/controversial - note: Venetian Snares' "Horse & Goat" EP cover. And no, I'm not doing the linkyshow bandance.

[Warning: NSFW, in case anyone's that stupid]
