BIOSHOCK Dx10 AMAZING!!!

Performance on my system seems less compared to some of you...
C2D 6300 @ 3.25Ghz
4GB ram @ 4-4-4-12
8800GTX at stock thanks to vista
Vista home prem x64
bioshock drivers

Running at 1920/1200 with all options on high but in places it feels like its droped down to 20fps :( Tbh it really doesn't look that good, I'd say it looks slightly better than Prey.Would have been nice if 2K added some more graphic options such as AA and AF  .I'm hoping UT3 will show us what this engine is capable off :) After all they did say last year it was running fine on a 7800GTX.

No worries found it thanks :)
Didn't know about that :)
Odd there is a hotfix for XP and vista .... I only had the prob in vista

Ok so all I have to maon about now is still slower under vista (unless the hotfix adresses that) and the lack of working AA (likewise) :p

the final game might have some updates since the demo, but since its out all ready in the states i doubt it else we would know i spose, maybe in the future updates? seems like a silly thing to miss out huh!

Aye ... first stalker and now this ... we are supposed to move forwards not backwards

Sniper, I mainly hover around the 38~45 mark most of the time in XP, around 10fps less in vista.
The lowest part so far is generally the first part in the plane wreck, sits around 28 in vista, 38 in XP.
(I haven't gone further than the tunnel/walkway flood yet).
Thats with 4xAA set in CP, it doesnt do much in game, but may drag my perf down a bit just being set in CP.

Looking forward to the new ATI tool so I can see what improvement 630/1000 will offer over stock.

I just played Bioshock in DX10 on my system and omg, this game is awsome, and the graphics are too, I was expecting my system to have problems running it and low fps though as I'm cursed, but was a very nice game, I enabled 2xAA, but the thing is, I dont think it works like that does it? And I was having a hard time trying to tell if AA was working or not.

A bit with trees ??
Havent played throughth the pc demo, but have the xbox, and dont remember that
Or do you have the full game ?

They'll have the full game, I've played through the PC demo and never seen any trees.

Turn off Dx10 via command line and force AA in Dx9, I'm not sure if it works for ATi cards though.

See my comparison shots in this thread;

Game looks gorgeous with Anti-Aliasing.

I think I would rather just keep it in DX10, but turning off DX10 in game dont actually turn DX10 off tho dont it?
It does yeah, but it won't enable AA to work for whatever reason, didn't for me anyway.

I'd rather lose the better water effects and slightly sharper shadows tbh, rather have less jaggies than better water really, jaggies are on screen all the time otherwise.

So if I disable DX10 in game, AA will start to work?

I dont really know about it with my 2900XT tho, seems to be big problems.

Well for me I had to force Dx9 using the command line at the shortcut (-dx9 at the end of the target line).

I'm not sure about ATi cards, some people say you have to rename the BioShock EXE to the Oblivion EXE.

Uh, cant be bothered with that, will stick to DX10, see what a patch brings.

I just tried it with 8xAA/16xAF at 1440x900, DX9, was quite smooth, allthough I could tell when the fps dropped and was quite low in the fire, also with no AA in DX10, there was like abit of lag towards the end of the demo, like were the broken fence is or something and water puring, I dunno if its just a glitch with the demo, will have to see.

There is quite a big difference in the water effects between dx9 and dx10, you will notice it a lot more when they are moving. Also some of the reflection effects are missing in dx9 I think.

Correct it doesnt turn off Dx10 by just turning off the dx10 detailed surfaces option, you need to add -dx9 to the shortcut to force it as other dx10 features are default enabled when it detects vista.

Well TBH I cant see the visual difference between dx9 and 10 .... maybe if 2 identical screens were side by side you might, but if I cant notice it without that its not worth worrying over TBH ... especialy when DX10 runs up to 25% slower than DX9 (both in vista) from my testing.

All this hype MS were putting around that dx10 dealt with things faster doesn't seem to be the case ....

You can compare helmut ... use the -dx9 switch to run dx9 in vista.

at the very start were you come up from under the water and sit with all the fires around ... for me dx9 vista= 38fps dx10= 28fps. (XP= 40 fps)

When I said "these 2 demos", I was assuming that "MOH-Airborne" is DX10, is it indeed DX10 ?.

Anyhow I aint bothered, I got Min of 70FPS in BioShock and Min of 80FPS in MOH-Airbourne @ 1920x1440, I will see what I get in Crysis as its 1st game to use DX10 fully (so they claim).
