Okay i'm gonna pick up a copy of vista tomorrow; current xp pro install just broke, and i need to know if A) Do i get 64bit or 32bit and B) Has anyone used the Creative remote with media centre (within Vista) as i am told that the creative entertainment centre is not part of the Vista drivers...
(I have the X-Fi Fatality with remote and front panel)

Need some help here guys as a bit of extra info. the machine it will be on is in my sig; also i play a lot of Games and watch a lot of video along with playing music all the time. Also heavy web browsing.

Thanks for the help in advance guys pull through for me i'm need this install to play Bioshock which i have waiting!

I have had very little success with creatives and Vista to be honest mate.

I got Business and Ultimate ( 32Bit ) and just last night, I got given ultimate upgrade with both 32 and 64bit installation DVDs

Naturally I threw the 64Bit one on straiht away ( using that right now ) but again, the creative card aint happening ( Audigy 2 + Live Drive ) although the basic playback stuff works.

Oh right, thats timing... A window just came up about solutions to my PC and the message "WINDOWS VISTA DOES NOT SUPPORT CREATIVE GAMEPORT"

Ok, small issue at this time, as I have never, ever used the gameport in my life, but another thing that fails to work on it.

Im thankful that I have kept my XP64 install untouched on this PC and I will be going back to it ( still playing around with Vista of course ) but I am annoyed with myself also, because I now have 4 ( or really 3 ) Vista Disks that are currently NOT being used in a PC.

Business 32
Ultimate 32
Ultimate Upgrade ( 32+64 )

And funnily enough, the upgrade one has drivers for my PCI IDE card but the full ones do not... This might however be that they are 32 and the upgrade I have in now is 64Bit, I dont know, but to install Biz and Ult, I have to remove the PCI cards?

Ok, not much help I know, but at least somehting to go on I recon.

Oh, and Im hoping to try out Halo2 myself.

cheers for the detailed reply; i have heard good things when it comes to the X-fi + vista and as you stated the Audigy cards have big problems with it.

Im gonna get a copy of home prem. 32bit; at the end of the day the OEM price will not change for years so even if i go back to XP at least i have it for future ref.

Anyway i'll report back on what i think tomorrow :D

Again cheers for the detailed reply :D

I have no problem with vista and creative xfi xtremegamer fatal1ty. easy installation and it work great. I use some CD that have vista software doe..

What about the LiveDrive for it?

The Card itself has no issues and as I said, the game-port is a non-issue for me.

ARGH!!!!

WinAmp wont install?

Sure it ran fine on Vista32 though?

Stuff it.

Yeah am very interested if the front panel works on this card; will report back later today once i have installed Vista on my system...

Hi... my X-Fi Fatal1ty (the original one) works fine in Vista x64, and with 4GB RAM. You need to make sure you get the Vista apps installed (either order a CD from Creative's site or get one of the ISOs that are floating around the web, linked from the Creative forums). The front panel works fine, though I have yet to bother with the remote - my MS Media Centre remote works better.

Winamp works here on HPrem x64

My Creative X-FI XtremeGamer works well enough on my Vista Ultimate x64 install. The only issues I'm seeing is the sounds for changing folders which is is like a "click" noise doesn't play properly. Sounds in games and movies though are fine.

On a slightly seperate note and sorry to deviate away from the OT, but has anyone on Vista x64 managed to find a "THX Setup Console" download link? It's the program that allows you to configure your card a lot more. Had it on the install CD but I can't find it, and can't find a download link :/

Seriously?

I tried v5.20 ( The version I have been using on XP32 & 64 just fine ) and it said that there will be issues and do I want to search for a fix, it pointed me to NULLSOFT. COM where I downloaded v5.35... That gave me the same message.

I suppose I could have re-tried in another mode, but why should I?

My Partitions have been messed up now too... I have lost a load of data from one HD that I am reqlly annoyed at and I have now gone back to XP32 ( Again, I never learn because I really want XP64 on this machine but Vista seems to not like updating from XP64? )

What I have now also done, is, forced myself to have Vista on one of the other machines, and I am running some tests - even if these tests kill the system, thats fine, it will let me see if I can force some things in or not.??? - such as WinAmp.

I bloody hell, I got Lost Planet and Halo 2 sat here waiting for me to try out.

I get the funny click sound also but apart from that my Fatality Gamer Pro works perfect in Vista x32

Has anyone got ALchemy working under Vista to enable EAX for COD2 or any other game?

I have Vista 64bit and it doesn't seem to wanna work :(

It'd probably install without issue on MINT ;)

I used to have a Falcon030 aswell, loved the thing. Those were the days, absolute beast of a machine back in 1992 :D

You well into your Atari's then pal?

(Sorry its off topic)

Never heard of anything called "an issue" until I used PCs.

Word seems to crop up every 2 minutes on them these days LOL

Got to be honest though, I much prefer Magic to MiNT, although with MiNT, at least I can run both my Atari and my Linux softwrae all alongside each other without having to emulate anything.

Got a TT with 10/16 RAM, 4GB Internal, CaTTamaran 48Mhz and Nova Graphics. Thats my baby.
My Falcon has recently had a CT63 ( 90Mhz 060 ), 256MB RAM, ATI Rage Graphics, running from a 512MB+4GB Compact Flash cards in IDE adapters, plus SCSI Externals.

Every bit as much as I am into PCs yeah.

Apart from 3D Gaming, there is nothing that my PCs can do, that my Ataris cannot... or at least nothing I need them to anyway.

Dont appologise... If every PC user had to appologise for all the issues that PCs caused, wed never get anythign done.

LOL

Awesome mate, you have one hell of a setup. I toyed with the idea of buying a Falcon again just to put a CT60 in it as a bit of a play thing. Falcons are still pretty expensive though!

I prefered Magic aswell mate. Along with Jinnee as my desktop :D

Im unsure if you can get the CT60 anymore?

I have the CT63 - Unlike the CT60, this just plugs in, and will take more RAM, and has better support for even more add-ons such as Czuba's 3xPCI Slots, Ethernet and USB etc... plus its 90 / 100Mhz so its much faster.

This is my 3rd Falcon I have to admit. I have had the TT for some time and while the Falcon can do tricks that make many PCs squirm in pain, the CPU itself is dire and ofcourse compared to the TT, it shows how poor it really is, and I got rid of them in favour of the TT.

Now though, I just needed the audio capabilities of the Fal;con and the speed was not really THAT much of an issue, however, the CT63 came along and I thought why not?

Magic v6.2 + Jinnee v2.5 - No better O/S in my books. Especially if you use GemScript, you can make any add-on you like, and while Windows may look nice etc there simply isnt enough power for me.

Plus of course having each file type in any colour you like has been a really silly and fun thing that I find ridiculous for a PC to not have.

And as for PC Disk protection... what a shambles that is!!!

Just chuck your PC HD into an Atari, and what does it do?

It says that the disk is protected, shall I deleted the protection?

Click on Y

Then it tells you that soem of the folders have passwords, shall I deleted the passwords?

Click on Y

Bingo... So much for Microsofts heavy protection eh?

And with MiNT, its even easier. You just select to ignore it and you can do anythign you like to any of the files, no matetr how well protected it is.

Pathetic!

No, I would never dowithout my Ataris and even these days, people come to play on the LAN and they are blown away by a 20 year old computer playing Movies, Raytracing and doing all kinds of D2D Digital Audio work that stock PCs simply cannot do without specialised hardware... It kind of shuts them up.

Either way, my Atari Falcon is faster at browsing, EMails, Office work, and general every day use than any of my PCs are by a fair margin too. The only thing that my PCs do quicker, is Prime Numbers and 3D stuff. - Hell I recon SuperPI on the Atari would be measured in years. and as for just getting a ball to bounce, or a game, we are talking FPD ( Frames per day ) - Only joking cos Doom & Quake etc are all available on the Falcon are they not?

LOL yeah mate, Doom and Quake are.

It'll get better once the Supervidel is released. Although a 68060 is never going to have the all out power too do anything like a modern PC can do.

But the demo crews will no doubt amaze us:D

Sorry to hijack thread but Falcons are great, still have mine tucked away under my bed :)

Used to love playing about with Apex.
