£5 Photobox Posters! And a photo to look at!

what is the best way to set up your images to know what size to get them printed at?

just put them at 300dpi and use the image size part of photoshop?
i have a few different pictures i wouldnt mind putting into a sort of collage and i'm not sure on how to set the page up

ideally i'd like to take full use of this offer and get the largest size print i can.

never used photobox or any other printing service before.

:@
i cannot get photobox to work!
it will not accept the code, it just keeps saying

"You have entered an offer code which has already been entered or is not valid. If you have already entered your offer code, then you don't need to enter it again."

been trying all night. no joy!
it will not reduce the price :(

Make sure there is no space at the start of the offer code, especially if you cut and pasted the code. I had the same problem, until I noticed there was a space there.

I read on there that collages are not included in this particular offer.

PhotoBox offer terms and conditions: Now you can buy poster size prints for just £5. Qualifying sizes include A3, 16" x12", 18" x12", 20" x16", A2 and 30" x20" prints. This offer is not valid for small and large collage prints. Offer expires at midnight on the 29th August 2007.

not so much a collage as a collection of about 6 photos like the picture in the OP.

if they're not included in this offer then so be it :)

looks like i'll sign up and get my 30 free prints then and just make the frame myself :p

what size is everyone getting...?

im looking at the 20x30 but i dont have any images that are full 300dpi for those,
so have to put a few together like the one above :)

i will probably sort all my images out today, then work on them tomorrow and buy some :)

thanks for the link, i signed up and sent a lot of friend requests.

what kind of camera do you need to be able to fill up a 20x30 print?!

thats huge.
Their laserlab is quoted as being a 254dpi device so at 5,080*7620 you could just about squeeze in a 39 megapixel shot from digital medium format, I guess :D

I've sent them a (roughly) 3000*2000 image to be printed at 30"x20". That's a lowly 100dpi print but I don't plan to scrutinise the poster up close so I reckon it'll do the job.

Thanks for the info on this Lord_Scott :)

What I'm wondering is whether they resample the picture you upload, to fit the requested size, or just resize it. I hope they resample it...

did you have to save the image at 100dpi ?

they say they print what you send them so i dont know what goes on :p
Nah, I just sent them a 3000 by 2000 JPEG and will let their systems scale as necessary. I've always let the printer or photo service do the upscaling as they usually make a pretty good job of it.

I had this done at 30x20 ages ago:

_D2N2277.jpg

It was taken on my D200 which was 3800x2600 or there abouts if memory serves. I did no upscaling or anything and saved as a jpeg, looks brilliant, even up close.

Very nice, I love the left image :) May I ask where you went to shoot that? Never seen stars like that sadly but would love to!

It was taken from a lay-by on the unlit country roads near Weeton, the sky was absolutely incredible to look at - just the number of stars was astounding. It think it was more to do with the clear night and the moon not being out than the location though - it was still close enough to Blackpool etc for there to be a lot of light pollution - I had to re-colour all those pictures from light-pollution orange to blue :p. Also to give you an idea of how bright the sky actually was, the middle shot was taken at f/13 for 40 minutes.

Did they allow you that 3 pic montage in the offer? forgot to ask that haha

Good question, I haven't got round to ordering it yet :p. Must do that today...I don't see why not anyway, all I'm doing is sending them a single jpeg to print.

The only thing wrong with that montage is the fact that there's a rogue capital W in the middle of a sentence ;)
That's a good point, I might fix that before I get it printed, was just copied & pasted from the site where I found the quote.

That's an absolutely cracking shot, that! My test arrived today and I'm well impressed: Details dont start to become soft until you're within arms reach of the print. You can pick up on artifacts up close, I only wish I hadn't shot it as JPEG now.
