Bioshock Autopatcher breaks the game.

avg wouldn't be triggered at all if they hadn't used such an agressive no dvd protection that happens to sit in reg and more...

lol, the only way avg works is by telling you that everything is a virus, it has to be right sometimes doesn't it?? right??

This is one of the reasons i pay for nod32

Well its killed mine, just came in from work booted PC up, AVG auto-updated, then my PC was on a major crawl, my mouse was stuttering all over the screen when i was moving it (didnt relasise it must have been this Bioshock patch downloading) so restarted it, then kept getting the AVG Virus crap on Bioshock.exe, but my bisohock.exe has changed to the window icon with the little arrow in the corner, and when i double-click it to start the game i just get the bloody torch coming on searching for it, so looks like ive got to reinstall it, and start again by the looks of it as i cant find me ******* saves!!!.:mad:

I can't even uninstall it now, me mouse must have been stuttering about as Bioshick was patching, so ive probably reset the **** while it was doing it as i thought me PC was acting up, but how stupid is that, how was i to know it was patching.

You shouldnt have to reinstall, just go into the virus vault and restore Bioshock.exe. Then its just a case of clicking 'ignore' if the alert box pops up again and temp disabling the resident shield. Hopefully AVG will bring out an update soon.

i clicked ignore the first time i got it, it still screwed it up damn it :(

so did Bioshock patch then, as mine still works ok, but it still says version 1.0, and im just wondering if when i reset my PC when my mouse was stuttering all over the shop (and my CPU usage was about 20%) that id reset it while it was patching, so im not sure if its patched or what.

how is it 2K's fault that AVG is picking up clean files as virus's? boishock isnt the only game it has happend with, if you want to fix it get a better anti virus:rolleyes:

Because you would think that 2k did some testing before releasing the patch as AVG is a very popular antivirus prorgram. However I agree ive had similar problems with AVG and false positives in the last few months. Luckily I now use AVast on Vista X64 so havent suffered this time.

Cheers,
Hugest

I mentioned this in the official thread. Panic set in but google search showed many people having same issue. I've temp disabled resident shield and its fine now.

Funny, I have AVG and I've never had a problem with bioshock (installing and playing). Although I've had problems with it detecting other games as virus' even though they aren't.

Well it was probably fine until AVG released a recent update that caused Bioshock to be detected as something malicious. Happened with stalker for me a few weeks ago, but they fixed it quickly.

+1 :(

Where's resident shield and how do you disable it? (sorry, 5 beers in).

Double click the icon in your task bar (the 4x coloured square), if its not on the Control Centre screen click that, then select the resident shield, click on properties, untick 'Turn on AVG Resident Shield Protection':)

Yeah ive only ever had it on the Stalker.exe to, but when i updated again next, it day was fixed.

arghhhhhhhhhh arrrrggghhhghhghgh...the ****ing patch has an 'invalid signature' what a load of crap

As I have said several times above, if you clicked "ignore" it isnt screwed, you have to go into AVG Control Centre and DISABLE Resident Shield and then the game will boot fine.

Close AVG is not good enough, you HAVE TO disable resident shield!

EDIT: As Loadsa says above too ^
