Gmail Android App Rubbish?

I am finding the Gmail android app to be terrible. For example when composing a email I have to manually type in the address, there is not option to add a contact. You can get a around this by going to contacts and sending via there but when I want to send a photograph this is irritating.

Is it just my phone (do I need to upgrade the app?) or is the gmail app just terrible?

should only need to type a few characters and it will list contacts that match.

Works for me, should only type a few letters and it should bring up contact's email addresses.

No problem here also, are you sure that they are being synced? Various options could be stopping it I imagine.

I've found it very good and solid all round so far. Does exactly what it should.

What phone have you got?

Main problem for me is the lack of copy when in an email. Also no zooming ability.

Also another annoyance is when you get 2 similar emails from the same sender the 2nd email is truncated.

I might dump k9 as it looks bland and doesn't seem any better than the standard offering

I run 2 gmail accounts, and 2 hosted through Google Apps - just use the standard HTC Mail app, no problems at all... And yes, I found the standard GMail app to be a bit pants

Not entirely sure what you mean, i can seem to copy within gmail on my Desire.

When reading an email? The only way to copy from within the gmail app is when you're writing an email AFIAK?
