I always used to when shooting sports. In manual, set 1/1000s and f/2.8; then auto ISO will mean the camera chooses the lowest ISO possible to get the correct EV. It's guaranteed to stop motion (unlike aperture priority + manual ISO), to get the highest degree of subject isolation (unlike shutter priority) and to get the lowest noise (unlike erring on the side of caution and using too-high an ISO in aperture priority mode).
